My LMT detachable no workie.
Too narrow. Any ideas?
Get a good mount for it.
The carry handle attachment method is terrible.
Even the OEM rail mount is better than sticking the optic on the Carry handle.
I personally own and am happy with the ADM and LaRue mounts. There are other options that seem to be decent as well
Concur. Unless you have a head shaped like Quagmire’s or Mac Tonight’s, you’re not getting anything like a decent weld with a carry-handle mount, anyway. Sticking with a normal mount placed on the rail is the way to go for the vast lion’s share of the population.
What about carry-handle mounting appeals to you, that you’d prefer it over what offers a better head position?
I took my TA-44R-4 off of my 6920, where it was sitting in a LaRue Compact ACOG mount and put it on my dad’s 6520 via the carry handle.
Ideal? No, absolutely not, but it works and he’s not going to put any more money into it, so changing out the A2 upper for a flat top isn’t going to happen.
So…it you want a mount to fit a flat top, I’ve got a LaRue I can probably make you a deal on.
I have an oldie-but moldy (but runs like a Timex) BM A2-style upper with a fixed carry handle. I tried it on that and to my surprise the setup fits me pretty okay. Note- the tiny 16mm obj has its sight line much lower than a unit with a larger lens. I have not measured, but it seems like it’s only about .70" over the line for the fixed irons. In fact, I can see the FSB in the sight picture.
I will use a flattop mount since the rifle for which it is meant is flat, but the carry handle IMO is just another option that has the benefit (again, IMO) of having the irons available at all times.
Okay, I gotcha. So, what I’m reading is that you actually have two different platforms, one with an A2 receiver, one with an A3, and you want to use the same optic on each.
Immediate suggestion is that you see about the possibility of checking the fit of that optic with carry handles from other brands. My RCO fit both Bushy and Colt detachable carry handles, if that helps. If you find one that fits (you should, all the ACOGs, sans a 1913 mount, are supposed to fit in the carry handle), buy it, use it on your LMT.
Make sure you have the right washer for carry handle use, or something similar. The curved part follows the radius of the underside of the carry handle, so you’re not scoring the metal like with some flat washers I’ve seen some use. It’s the TA53A screw set (apologies in advance if you already knew all that :D), and it looks like this:
Somebody’s gonna suggest just buying another optic, of course, to spare you having to constantly check zeros every time you swap the optic from gun to gun. It’s easier said than done with the ACOGs, unless you have a petty-cash vineyard growing on your back yard trellis, but it’s still a valid point.
That’s cool and the gang- I’ve got the correct nut/washer etc. Maybe I will try to source a BM handle or Colt or somesuch.
ACOG was originally designed to mount to the carry handle…
