I didnt want to hijack dutch308’s thread so I thought Id start this one instead. The drill/reamer bits on the right, are those the same type one would use to ream for taper pins? Granted of course you had the right recommended size…

Simply put, NO. You need a taper reamer to ream holes for taper pins. Two totally different beast.

No, I’m not endorsing MSC or any other company, they just came to the mind first due to their catalog always being on the filing cabinet at work.

those bits on the right are what are called easy outs around where i live. you take the corresponding drill bit on the left and drill a hole in the broke off bolt and the easy out has a reverse thread that as you thread it down in the hole you drilled and as it tightens up it turns the broke off bolt out if the hole. for the taper pins i would think that a person would need the right size taper pin reamer that corresponds to the size pin you are using. hopefully some on here will know what size you need. Size 2/0 reamer for standard gas block taper pins.

The 2/0 reamers for $7.90 I used worked fine in this thread.

Reamer Page I used the spiral and hand ream with cutting oil. Check fit often.
