A little help here?
Awhile back there was a post about putting a QD mount on a tango down VFG. Anyone remember if it was A.R.M.S or LaRue?
If you recall…got the model number?
Thanks in advance!

Just use the four small zip tie method! Save the money from the mount and buy more ammo and mags. Zip ties are cheap!
The QD method does have its uses.
There was a tutorial on TOS about making one with a ARMS mount and LT mount which is too much hassel and do expensive fr what it is. If anyone knows of a way to do it that wont break the bank and is easy to do please speak up.
If you are looking for a QD VFG, why not look at one DESIGNED to be QD right from the start… BOBRO at Rainier Arms (Stickman)?

It is only a bit more $$$ than the TD, but far cheaper than a TD/ARMS combo.
I just got one of their STUBBY ones and it is impressively made yet still LIGHTWEIGHT…

Are planning on taking your VFG off much ?
I haven’t found any need to remove my VFG other than if I am going to mount a new rail system. I dont use the SF 900 series so there’s no need to remove it very often or for that matter at all.
I was sent a GRIPPOD by Joe Gadinni of SWR when he replaced my booster housing and booster shaft in my SWR HEMS II .45 ACP sound suppressor. For some reason he just threw it in the package. Nice guy. ![]()
I wouldn’t do without one of the GRIPPODS and it tightens to the rails just fine witout the need to find a mount or spend anymore money on said mount. Not to mention it takes away the need for a large combersome Harris on your AR.
Just my .02
How do 4 zip ties = a QD mount? ![]()
I have seen the small ARMS mount used to allow QD action for VFGs. I personally chose to purchase the Ergo “Husky” VFG, which has an integrated QD mount. The QD portion of the grip isn’t as sturdy as an ARMS or Larue piece, but it seems to be holding up well. Stays as tight as you want it to be.
That only works for the tango down vfg
I was just asking because I have seen the zip ties used to keep a loose TD VFG from wobbling, but I didn’t see how adding zip ties would make the TD VFG a “quick detach” piece…
I find the idea of a $175 VFG laughable, but some people evidently feel that need. As already pointed out, the Bobro VFG is roughly half the cost (or less), and gives quick installation and removal, while remaining solid.
There are guys who have multiple railed weapons that don’t want to buy multiple VFG, and there are also guys who have wired down sections of their rails or have other equipment they don’t want to remove to play with the VFG. Those are the primary reasons I can think of. To each their own.
If you use the zip ties to hold down the bars that lock into the rail, it makes it much easier to adjust or remove the VFG. I hope that helps, if not I will take some pics for you.
The thing with that not being QD is that you have to remove whatever is in the way and slid it off of the rail.
That aplies to all VFG’s that slid onto the rail regardless of they are QD or not.
I like the BOBRO. I think you can take it on and off without sliding it. Just wish they would put a presure pad cutout like the Tango Down.
If you slide the VFG on to the rails (regardless of the zip ties or not), it is not a QD VFG. My Ergo grip has a lock lever that grabs the rail, and can be removed in seconds. I don’t have to remove any rail covers or lights, etc. to remove the VFG. That is what “QD” is.
Just like a Larue QD optic mount. You don’t slide it on to the rail—it clamps on.
I can’t think of any quality optic mounts that don’t clamp, cam or lock to the rail in some manner aside from sliding over the rails. VFGs have been much cheaper to make without that feature.
A QD dosent slid onto the rail it clamps on.
Agreed. I wasn’t trying to stray from the topic. I was trying to explain what a “QD” feature was by making a comparison to a Larue mount, as a poster felt that adding zip ties qualified as QD.
I dont feel it qualifies it as a QD it just makes attaching that particular model of VFG easier and less of a hassle and it cost next to nothing. I really cant see needing a QD for a VFG any way. When are you seriously going to need to remove it in a split second. If it truly gets in the way in certian situations take it off and keep it off or get a folding VFG instead of having to get a secondary mount for the fixed VFG.
