A pair of Aces

3 years ago I bought a 1979 made Service Model Ace (O1974)

It was not in very good condition, some wear and blueing loss, the trigger was badly Dremeled to “soften” the edges and it had a modified threaded barrel to accommodate a silencer. But it was reasonably priced at $ 600.

I cleaned it up, changed the trigger and bought a second NOS original barrel. I’ve shot this gun quite a lot, it’s been reliable and a ton of fun.

So when I recently saw this ANIB 1978 model for sale I couldn’t resist. Bought it for $ 1000.-

One mag only, which mag is different from the ones I already had

The LGS who arranged the transfer kindly gifted me a vintage Colt pouch

The pair of Aces

Not sure if I keep the old one or if I sell it

Nice looking pair of Iconic Colts.

Another pair of beauties! Thank you for sharing them with us.

The Colt “Ace” is a Classic. I suppose every “Collection” should have one.

If however one is in pursuit of pure accuracy in a 1911/.22- the Marvel “Unit 1” and/or Nelson upper units are Top of the Heap.
I have a couple that rivaled the mechanical accuracy of my Pardini Fiocchi SPE Olympic Target Pistol. Rather they were equally “shootable” is another story.

Very cool, I have never seen one. I bought a couple SAA Colts in .22LR. I marvel at the fact a .22 can move a slide to cycle.

They look great as do their pictures. I haven’t seen these before - Thank you for sharing!

Is this similar to the .22 Nighthawk sold several years ago? I think I remember something like that somewhere in the safe. Thank you for the pointer!

Took the new Ace to the indoor 25 m range, it’s a very decent shooter; reliable too.

Similar, yes. Not sure who made the .22 uppers for Nighthawk, fairly certain it wasn’t either Nelson or Marvel.
