Done some searching and some googling. Not really found much. Obviously found a few other folks starting threads on other boards and thinking like me, why not? Didn’t exactly find any threads specifically here, my apologies if I didn’t use a good enough keywords in the search button and this has been addressed.
Anyone hear of any plans yet for a mid length MOE handguard? I can’t believe a company like Magpul could just completely ignore the mid length crowd. There seems to be plenty of guys going that route and I myself have been reading up on it thinking thats a very good chance of the route I’m taking for my next one.
Was very sad to see there is hardly any mention of a mid length MOE handguard.
you were on the right track with the search function, but i have seen a post or two in here about it. don’t remember the titles.
apparently they are coming out sometime this summer. thats what i’ve heard from a few different guys, but i don’t know exact dates, and i’m sure magpul doesn’t either. us middy guys aren’t gonna be left hangin high and dry tho.
Midway has them listed now, but out of stock with est. date of 6/30/10 for black & 7/19/10 for Dark Earth. However, last week they had a date of 6/15/10.
They are in the new catalog at Magpul’s website. I want one too but would not let it hold up a build, unless you already have another carbine. The short answer is that it will be out when it’s out.
It’s not always easy for a company to accurately predict whether or not a product will be relatively successful. Even when you have direct contact with your consumers through a site like this, you have to evaluate how many people will claim interest in a product and then never actually buy it. You also have to consider whether or not the members at a place like this represent the bulk of consumers who will eventually make the product profitable (I would guess no).
Making any product in multiple sizes just increases your upfront investment cost in terms of molds, tooling, production/distribution logistics, etc. It’s more economical to release one version (especially the version that clearly makes up the bulk of the AR world these days) and then come out with other versions down the road if appropriate.
IIRC the SHOT show photos at the Magpul booth showed a potential date of August for the release of mid and rifle length. Look for the photo of the printed note held in the hand.
In all other considerations, Magpul doesn’t say until after they do. Can’t blame them, it stops a lot of grief and provides a stock answer.
The picture with dates was never released by Magpul, and its not a timeline people should bank on. I’m sure a lot of you guys remember how badly people were crying when Magpul wasn’t able to meet good faith timelines, which is why we don’t get the same info anymore.
