So my adoring wife comes to me the other day and says…"Honey, If I were to die, I would want you to continue on with your life and find someone new to love, but I have a couple of questions.
She continued on…“Would you let her wear my clothes?” I said of course not honey. those are your “Personal items”. Then she said…“Would you let her drive my new convertible?”. I said absolutely not! I’d probably sell it."
Then my wife says…“You wouldn’t let your new lover shoot my AR would you?” I said not until I install the Ambi Selector Switch because she’s… Left Handed"!
My loving wife is packing her things even as I type this. She has decided that she is not the “loving” wife anymore. I will miss a few guns as they’re hers. Maybe I can console myself by filling those spots in the safe??
This situation is all to familiar to many of us. Sorry to hear it. IMHO…Take your time with all decisions over the next 6-12 months, including purchasing “Comfort Toys” as they almost always are a bad decision in the long run.
On the brighter side, I would have never met my current wife if the last one hadn’t vacated the premises. Yours is out there too!
I am proud to say that I will be getting engaged. I am planning to pop the question in February. However, she and I have been talking about it for months and I am certain she will say yes. She is a great woman and she and I have lots in common. I think I am rubbing off on her too because she is starting to watch Self Defense TV with me. I just need her to meet some gun-toting women with some class so that she dumps the stigma that society puts on gun owners.
I wasn’t really gonna buy any “comfort toys”, I just don’t have the bucks.
However, today she wants to reconcile, saying she feels she has made a mistake, and wants to try again. I didn’t want her to go, so we will try again. Hopefully it will work out.
Hang in there dude, if me and mine hadn’t had the verbal UFC matches the first 2-3 years we wouldn’t have the understanding relationship we have now at the 17 year mark.
I understand I’m in charge and she understands she should let me think so; no matter what the reality is.
Get some good counseling and put some effort into it and I bet you will be a lot happier in the years to come. Me and mine were about ready to call it quits 18 years ago when we ended up getting some help. Now when ever I tell someone that we went to a counselor people are amazed. I know there is a lot of doubt when it comes to marriage counseling but if a couple will go with the determination to find a way to make their marriage work then there is a lot of hope.
I always tell folks that the marriage may no longer be legal but it will never die. (ie. If you divorce you will go through a grieving process just like losing a loved one and the memories go with you always.) You are with her for a reason so go to work and rediscover what that is.
Many professional will tell you that grieving a divorce is greater than grieving a death. I tend to agree after being there a couple of times, and going through the death of my Father. Death is final and a natural progression of life. Each day we live we are closer to dieing. Divorce isn’t as “Final” and the “Ex” is still alive. If you have kids, they never go away. (The Ex)
Find the things that made you fall in love with each other, and re-build on them.
