A little closer look at the M10 Booker.

I would love to crawl around this little Tank for a day. 21 years active and another 14 working for the Company that developed this, a have a few opinions. Although I can’t tell until I see one, this appears to be pretty smart. Old Technology.
Worth the Watch if you’re light Infantry of a Tanker.

Engine up front? I wonder if the UKR-RUS action showed that even a less capable (or ancient in that case) tank is still better than nothing- and if you have more tanks- and if they can actually get there- that is all better. Once past common arms vulernability (machine guns and anti aircraft guns), if you have to use an anti-tank weapon like a Milan or other high end weapon, why not have a cheaper tank?

I believe in the long run it is a cheaper Tank and it gets there faster, which seems to be the main concern for light units.
A lot of bad info about how Tanks operate on the modern battlefield is out there. There are quite a few N60 and M1A1 Abrams operators who would feel at home her and could teach a few nasty tricks,.
I’m hoping that “Armor” Magazine is out there gathgering data and personal experiances from Ukraine.
The major differences that I can see is that we were always covered by both Arty and Air Assets.
I would guess the counter drone field is crazy about now.

Armor magazine? Thanks, I was unaware of it. My Dad and I have almost every issue of the old AFV-G2 from the seventies.

The US was pretty heavily invested in Counter-Unmanned Arial Systems (C-UAS) MLIDS and FSLIDS from our experiences in OIF/OEF. Our current sensor technology makes mobility a challenge - I don’t know if a M-LIDS is truly capable of off-road movement to keep pace with the armored vehicles.

The ability to integrate C-UAS into a tank is pretty far in the future but a logical progression.

Andy

It looks cool. Did he say the top speed? I would take it out for a spin.

The Army really doesn’t want to call it a light tank. They INSIST it’s not a light tank.

We’ve needed a light tank forever. Nobody wanted to call a Sheridan a light tank, yet we had two battalions of them in the 82nd. When they went away, who thought an armored Humvee could do the same thing?

It’s a freaking light tank. Revel in it. Use it the way it’s supposed to be. It’s NOT an Abrams Main Battle Tank.

It looks like a tank, it has a turret with a large gun and treads. I assume it has armor.

Why doesn’t the Army want to call it a light tank?

There are always a few holdouts when it comes to changes in the Armor Community.
I think the experiance with the Stryker MGS, people might want to see it actually proven before anyone calls it anything but a fluke.
There are all kinds of tricks you learn through experiance, little ways to make up for lower technology. I used to lock my M2 in alignment with the Maingun at sundown, lay the M2 in at 1000 m’s with the maingun and use the main thermals to shoot my .50 cal at night. Just don’t shoot the gun tube,…

Because the Airborne Infantry mafia runs the Army and they’re still jealous of the Cavalry.
