FORT MYERS, Fla. – Authorities said a Fort Myers honors student was arrested after she pistol-whipped her mother to get her to co-sign for a sports car.
Her mother said she didn’t want to press charges because her daughter had been accepted to several Ivy League schools.
But maybe because of the magic of the internet, that will never happen.
Rachel Anne Hachero, 17, was arrested by Lee County deputies after being accused of pistol-whipping her mother and forcing her to buy the teen a car at gunpoint.
The senior’s arrest conflicts with newspaper and online accounts of her success: She was a member of the school’s Model United Nations team who received honorable mention and third place awards at a Harvard competition; She ran in the Mountain Dew University of Florida Invitational, she and placed 9th in the 2009 Fort Myers Komen Race for the Cure in the 12- to 15-year-old category; She was been accepted into several Ivy League schools on scholarships, according to the report.
And it gets better…
According to the Naples News, the gun turned out to be “one of three reported stolen from a Lee County Port Authority employee’s home last July.
I’m not seeing the problem here. I think parents these days don’t understand the importance of having a nice car your freshman year in college.
There are a lot of things we dont know here. Did the 17 year old have a job to pay for the car(she was asking her mother to co sign, not buy)? Did the car have low miles? What kind of rims? Sound system? It sounds to me like her mother was being a little stingy with the credit and not recognizing her daughters accomplishments.
Might be a good idea to throw some smileys in your post so people don’t think you are too stupid to own firearms. The way it reads now makes you look like an idiot.
Without knowing more than what’s in the stories cited, one might surmise this is a tale of a bright kid pushed hard to excel who makes the grades, picks up an entitled attitude along the way, starts using drugs to blow off a little steam and, almost like clockwork, does something irrevocably stupid.
Sad deal but maybe both mom and daughter can use this situation to reset their respective priorities.
And maybe the little princess just needs to recognize that she isn’t a “special person” and isn’t entitles to jack shit. Perhaps a bright future as a McDonalds assistant manager will help her find the path of enlightenment she so desperately needs.
Personally, I’m glad she pulled this stunt. There is no reason that the people who are paying good money to send their kids to Ivy League schools should be subjected to violent sociopaths like that. Ideally, she will live with Mom forever.
It might just be me, but not being able to spot blindingly brilliant sarcasm and failing to realize hot rims can cause abhorrent behavior may just get you your sign…
Her mother said she didn’t want to press charges because her daughter had been accepted to several Ivy League schools.
Isn’t this irrelevant? Criminal charges are brought by the state, not an individual. Seems like another instance of the media myth about charges and what not.
