A couple recent builds

Some things I’ve been working on…thought I’d share

MK12 Mod 1

[ul]Rifle length gas

[ul]OPS INC brake/adapter for 12th model suppressor

[ul]KAC RAS rail

[ul]KAC bipod adapter

[ul]Harris 6-9 bipod

[ul]KAC 11 rib panels

[ul]LMT complete BCG
[/ul]
[ul]PRI Gasbuster charging handle
[/ul]

[ul]Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32
[/ul]
[ul]La Rue LT104 cantilever mount
[/ul]

Goal here was to set up a SPR in the same caliber as my other guns.

I could not be happier with the setup so far. Kevin at HCS is one of the best people to work with, would reccomend him and Alan to anyone out there looking for a MK12 or 18. Kevin and I talked through it and I was a bit worried about the A5 and problems cycling but all brass 55gr-77gr of various manufacture have all functioned perfectly.

Goal here was to two-fold; first was to build an SBR that is the ‘perfect’ mix of weight savings, terminal ballistics, reliability, accuracy, etc. The second was to give PSA a try. They caught my eye with their specs, the FN-manufactured barrel, the barrel length, and finally the price tag. After confirming things like chamber and gas port, I was comfortable going ahead with the SBRing process. Keep in mind, there is no mil spec for this barrel length.

This was my first business with PSA and I have been completely satisfied. Not sure if they make this upper anymore, or even have the barrels, but the combo makes for a very smooth-cycling SBR that is both light and manageable. With the VLTOR emod this is perfectly balanced at the magwell ~T11, which I like given that no matter how full/empty the magazine, feel and balance are the same. Only downside to the SBR is that it will not reliably function steel.

Take-aways from both builds
*The VLTOR A5 is the shit. Seriously. Its functional advantages and dynamic ability to provide benefits across various barrel lengths make it a must have for anyone that has a lower playing host to more than one upper.
*Like the A5, I’m hooked on the emod. The cheekweld, integral sling attachment point, and the way it effectively balances a 11.5-18" upper is great. I may have to try an imod on the next (MK18) build due to weight.
*Centurion rails are the shit. Easy install and 4 integral QD points are the high points for me.
*Along with Centurion, Battle Arms Development is one of my favorite companies, both in terms of doing business and in terms of their product/ingenuity.
*I don’t like the selectors PSA provides with their LPKs - very gritty and difficult to actuate especially on the first couple range trips (even with a polished detent). Swapped out for LMT selector from Grant.

Both are nice builds. Congrats!

I especially like the Mk12 / Nightforce. What kind of accuracy are you getting out of it?

Thank you Scoby. Long time coming, especially with the SBR.

The MK12 is a hell of a lot more accurate than I am. I was happy with .75moa at 100 yards that I shot yesterday. And that was benchrest only, which I hate. From prone especially, it’s really enjoyable to shoot and relatively easy to re-engage quickly and accurately.

As an aside, I really like Southwest Ammunitions’ products, I’ve used around 200 of their 77gr loads and I’m real impressed.

ETA: I found the Nightforce ‘used’ for a steal so I bought it, but it has the NP1 reticle. Obviously not as easy as a mil dot for quick adjustments but I like how un-cluttered it is. May have NF change the ret down the road if I find myself wanting the mil dot.

I really like both of your builds very nice.

Thanks and welcome to the forum!

Nicely done on both counts.

With respect to short stroking with the Russian stuff, have you tried a lightened A5 buffer?

Standard A5 Buffer: 5.3oz (2 steel + 2 tungsten)
A5 Mod1: 4.5 oz(3 steel + 1 tungsten)
A5 Mod2: 3.6 oz (4 steel)

Thank you - and I appreciate the suggestion. I’ve heard about VLTOR suggesting that and I haven’t messed with it yet. I really like the way the gun shoots now and I don’t want to mess with that…yet.

Awesome builds. I really like the precision rig.

I understand. I modded a couple of A5s using spare CAR buffers and keep them in my range bag to use when I shoot Tula.

:thank_you2: I like it too

Good idea, I’ll keep my eye out for a spare buffer!
