A couple of new accessories for the AK

These two new accessories for the AK have me pretty excited. I’m currently evaluating these systems and will post full reviews here shortly.

Questions and comments are of course welcome.

That Mako rail reminds me of the CAA X47 five piece rail system. In fact I thought Mako/CAA/Fobus were one in the same?

Not to pinch a loaf in the punch bowl, but I’ll pass and stick with Ultimak.

The US Palm looks like it might have potential.

Indeed. Looks like a nice option.

I’ve taken the Ultimak off my rifle and it sits on the bench. I’ve gone almost completely to MI/US PALM rails. However, the Mako rail shows some promise. I like that the extended rail allows for traditional optics like the CMR shown in the video which can quickly be switched to a RDS depending on what I want to do with the rifle. It adds 18oz to the weight of the rifle, but the weight is pretty evenly distributed so it doesn’t make it feel nose heavy. It also mounts very rigidly to the AK, it doesn’t clamp the barrel like the MI/USPALM or Ultimak systems. It clamps the receiver. This coupled with their folding stock and it’s a very interesting setup.

Mako looks like the TDI shit I saw years ago in-country and likely for a reason. No thanks and fuck that.

I’ve had the US Palm rail for a while. Like it a lot, even more than the Ultimak. The Ultimak is good, there are just some things about the MI/ US Palm rail I liked better. The Mako still puts the optic way high over the comb of the stock. It seems like a lot of SGO in the set up. I like having a cheek weld of some kind. To each his own.

I’d like the looks of the Mako Rail and would try it but for the obscene price. Cheapest on the net is over $350.
