9mm Subsonic vs 22lr

Hey Everyone,

Looking at picking a carbine-like item for my wife. Since 9mm subsonic has less of a kick I was thinking about getting the cmmg MK9 T m4, but I’ve heard that the 22lr has more stopping power. Is this true?!?!? If that’s the case my wife would be able to shoot easily a 22lr type carbine clone no problem, not to mention for a fraction of the cost. Please verify.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by “stopping power”.

9mm subsonic which is generally a 147 grain bullet at around 1000 fps has 327 ft-lb of energy. A 1200 fps 22 (40 grain) is 129 ft-lb. So I do not see any scenarios where 22 has better energy, stopping power, power factor or whatever over 9mm.

Why not just give her your MP5?

What is the OP’s opinion of what “stopping power” is?
What would most think about the difference in terminal performance between .22LR offerings compared to 147 HST or 147 Gold Dot, etc?

Mp5 has too much kick…I know. Subsonic is next to nothing though. But the 22lr a five year old could shoot.

Then what would you think the differences in terminal performance could be?
There are some other things that you may want to look at at least?

The CX4 9mm is a great price here.

If your wife cannot handle the recoil impulse of 556 you probably need to get her a stun gun. 60# 10 year old girls shoot them every day. The noise is probably more intimidating to her than the recoil.

I don’t think a 9mm AR has any less kick than a 223 AR.

I would never trust 22lr for a fighting gun. They don’t penetrate and they don’t feed reliably enough.

If she really can’t handle a 223 carbine, its probably time to realize guns arnt her thing.

9mm blowback have way too much recoil in my experience, due to the 5lb bolt flopping back and forth. 556 wins in recoil and terminal ballistics. 22 does not have more stopping power than 9mm. Whoever told you that lost all credibility when the term “stopping power” was mentioned, then it was reaffirmed by the rest of the statement.

My 9mm blowback experience was not an ar so maybe they are better, but the mp5 was better than the blowback I used.

You might try one of those 5.7 uppers

Do you even gun bro?
