9MM SMG shootout (MP5 vs. M-16)

I posted this on a couple other boards but I thought it might be interesting.

Back in 2008 I bought a RDIAS but I quickly learned that the 9mm is far from the best caliber in the M-16. It was fairly reliable but it was very bouncy on F/A. The best way to describe it would be like shooting a pogo stick. I’d heard how smooth the MP5 series of guns were and in early 2011 I scraped up enough cash for a Fleming sear in a 4 pos burst pack and a MP5-N built by Ghilliebear.

12.5” Model 1 Barrel with TROS 3-Lug, Metalform 32 round magazine, 9mm Buffer, Broadhead RDIAS, and MGI Lower.

MP5-N, A2 Stock, 30 round HK magazine.

Now this was a sub gun that I could work with. It was more reliable than the M-16 and it defiantly felt smooth but I wanted to see how much of a difference there was so I decided to match the guns up as best as I could and record the results.

I set up targets at 15 yards and loaded up two 25 round magazines for each gun and fired a 25 round burst at each target.

Now this wasn’t a scientific test but it was interesting. I have fired over 15,000 rounds through the M-16 in various calibers but only 1300 through my Fleming sear (about 650 in the MP5).

I hope to perform a similar test next week with a 33K and a 11.5” M-16.

I have shot a Gilliebear built MP5/40 .
Got to say I was impressed the roller locked actions defiantly have a different recoil impulse to them.

Try an A5-H4 and rifle spring in your 9mm Lower.
