I’ve been getting a fever lately and the only cure is more 9mm. I’m a notorious .45acp guy amongst my friends but have been changing my ways for a more cheaper way of shooting. So I’ve started getting 9mms together. So far I got a Glock 17 Gen 4, HK P30L, and Sig Sauer P226 E2. Saving some more money up to get a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 full size. Is there any other guns I should really consider adding to my stable? Hopefully I’ll be conducting a 2k test on these guns as well as making some sort of spread sheet comparable to Tactical Yellow Visor. Seeing how there are so many “which 9mm should I get?” threads.
Let me add that the pistols in my test are going to be full sized guns, both of metal and polymer frames. Ideally with something that has a rail for a light.
I’ve been though just about all of them, and settled on SIG’s for myself. I carry an excellent condition older all Kraut stamped slide P226 every day, and also keep a later P226 Tactical.
I have wookie paws though, and the older SIG’s fit my hand perfectly. I have yet to try the E2’s.
The P30 is the Mercedes of 9mm handguns…beautifully built and engineered.
I was never a really big fan of Sig because of the size of the gun. But after handling the E2 guns at SHOT, I was in love. The SRT trigger is amazing as well. If you got Wookie paws then I must have ewok paws (they compliment my T-rex arms), so the E2 guns fit great in my hands.
I agree the P30’s are great, so much that I have a P30, P30L, and a P30 in .40cal inbound as well. The interchangeable back strap and side panels make fitting this gun to your hand a breeze.
I finally shot a M&P9 last week and I see what the buzz is all about! Great accuracy and very very soft shooting. I look forward to getting one to shoot and test.
All in 9mm. I am all HK, now. I love my .40s and .45s, but at today’s prices, the 9s get the nod for range and competition. Now that it’s warmer, the SK is my EDC, now.
I was hoping no one would suggest the 92FS haha. I despise that gun, but I do see the warrant for the test since it is the primary side arm of the Military.
I knew I was forgetting something! Thanks, whats the popularity of the XD/XDM and the FNP? I’d really like to spend the bulk of my testing/research/fun on the more popular firearms.
I’m working on getting a FN FNX-9 (updated FNP) to try out. I don’t know how popluar they are but I don’t think many people have shot them let alone even know about them.
I just looked at the FN site and saw it. I was only aware of the FNP series and the new FNP 45 Tactical (uber cool). Would it be a safe comparison of the FNP-FNX to the XD-XDM series? Physically I see the new safety lever, cocking serrations, grip pattern, and mag release. Anything else different?
I’ve spent a lot more than I care to remember buying and shooting just about all of the major wondernines out there. In 9mm, I find the Glock and a decently-made 9mm 1911 (use good mags!) to be the kings of the hill. CZs and SIGs get honorable mention.
The only bad thing I’ve heard was that a user reported issues around the 1500 mark. But a) that was a sample size of 1 b) no other conditions were given ie. didnt clean after range trips etc.
I’ve got limited trigger time on these and the only way I could describe shooting it would be to say that it was like shooting a hybrid of a P226 and an M&P9. It had a bore axis similar to the sig but sight radius similar to the m&p. Controls and modularity were similar to the m&p but has a de-cocker similar to the sig and the list goes on.
I’d be much more inclined to getting one if they ever released a striker fired version.
You’ve got some superb choices already. The only thng I’d throw out for your consideration would possibly be a current FN/Browning Hi-Power, if you prefer a single-action trigger. Unfortunately, as has been discussed in some detail here, current production Hi-Powers are both relatively low production (i.e., scarce) and spendy, even when discounted (i.e., in HK territory price-wise).
