Are there any disadvantages in using a 9mm Buffer with a 16" Mid-Length upper. I have an extra buffer laying around and wonder if it would cause short stroking, or FTF.
Thanks.

Increased chance of short stroking with weak ammo, dry/dirty weapon, marginal gas system.
“marginal gas system”
Please elucidate!

I think he means if you have an aftermarket upper with a gas port/system that is boarderline functional with the standard buffer, the 9mm buffer will start to show problems.
For best reliability I’d recommend a CAR 2.9oz standard buffer in a midlength. The midlength takes care of the problems the CAR length gas systems have. No need to slow the bolt down in a midlength.
I have a CMMG 16" Mid-Length Upper.
Ok thanks. I’ll just stick with the standard Carbine buffer.
