You’re partly right, and partly wrong. The muzzle device is a component under the ATF’s 922r rules, but the bayonet lug is not. Since you don’t have a muzzle device, you only need 5 US-made parts. For the SAR series, it was generally the gas piston, pistol grip, and the three pieces of the fire control group. If your AK has a muzzle device, it needs a sixth US-made component. This irks me because I really want to put my full East German pebble furniture on my SAR-2, but I need another US-made part to balance it out first. Note that the upper and lower front handguard count as one piece together, not two separate pieces.

Gas tubes dont count as compliance parts. What counts are
Barrel-1
Receiver-1
Muzzle device-1
Hand guards-1
Stock-1
Pistol Grip-1
Piston-1
FCG (trigger-1, hammer-1, sear-1) 3 parts
Mag (body-1, Floor plate-1, follower-1) 3 parts
There are a few other parts that count but they are not relevant since no one in the US makes them. (front trunnion)
Add:
Lower Receiver (assuming the above ref was for the Upper).
Charging Handle
All above are under the '89 law, which remains in effect, as applied to a FAL, where 10 US parts are needed (or 9 if the barrel is bare).
The '94 AWB dealing with threaded muzzles and bayo lugs went away.
