9" tube forend with FSB cutout

I did some searching and didnt come up with anything definitive.

Im building a 10.5" upper and really want to keep the FSB vs. going to a lo-pro gas block since I just cant get myself to trust lo-pro’s.

If I go with a lo-pro gas block I am going to run a Troy TRX Extreme 9" tube.

So what I am looking for would be a 9" tube, but with an FSB cutout similar to how DD does their 12" Omega X rail. I know it would obviously not have anything in front of the FSB on a 9" version.

I see that Samson has the Evolution 7"-EX which looks like it would fit the bill, but does anybody know if this works with a stock FSB? All they show it with is the Adams Arms piston kit.

You could look at the centurion arms rails. They have rails with a cutout. I would really like to build a 10.5 with one of their cutout rails. I don’t know of any tube style rails with a cutout, but I’m sure someone could modify one for you.

I dont really want a “rail” type system, really wanting a tube type setup. I just dont have a use for all the rails.

Get a barrel with pinned FSB and chop it off. Voila, a durable lo-pro gas block.

How would you install the FSB anyway with a one piece tube style handguard?

Didnt think about that, damn.

How does the Samson -EX rails install with the piston setup? Seems that it wouldn’t work either unless the Samson rail has enough internal space to slide over the piston setup or the piston system installs after the fact.

It has cut outs. You can also install it from the barrel nut side.

I can’t answer about the other rail options but if your only reason to avoid a low-pro gas block is you don’t trust them than shaving the FSB is a great option.

It also gives the option of a fixed front of flip if you want.

Apexhandguard.com makes one.

I knew I had seen one, but I couldnt remember the name. Theirs is a one piece, but they include provisions for being able to re-pin the FSB on. I wonder if any of the other companies do this?

All the tube type handguards are one piece as far as I know, the FSB has to be pulled, and reinstalled.

Does the Samson provide the ability to re-install the FSB on their extended version?

Looking at the picture above I would say yes. See the two square cut outs at the front lower part of the rail. To be sure though talk to Samson.

BTW if you are going to pull and reinstall the FSB yourself there’s a 2 page thread in the tech forum on this.
