I may be buying my i [/i] Schmidt & Bender Short Dot with Locking Turrets, which would ride on a KAC one piece 30mm scope mount, on an 11’’ KAC host.
I’ll be running almost exclusively Black Hills, Federal Gold Match, SSA, Hornady 75 gr., and Buffalo Bore, so my question is this…
Will a S&B Short Dot be a better choice as an overall GP sight, or should I roll with an ACOG TA11 (Green chevron) with 7.62x51NATO reticle.
Will the ACOG .308 reticle match 77 gr. projectiles better than the 5.56 markings?
My ACOG TA31ECOS-G sucks for 77 gr. stuff, and I’ve more or less been relegated to 62 gr. Federal stuff, due to crappy POA/POI.
And will it still hold true on an 11’’ host?
Thanks, guys.
Just curious, How far off is the poi VS the poa at 100m, 200m, 300m with the ACOG and the Heavy 75 and 77 grain projectiles? I have about 300 rounds of 55 and 62 grain through my TA31H. I was thinking abut picking up some 75 grain tap… I’m shooting out of a 16 inch 1/7 SR15. Just wondering how far I’ll be off…
I haven’t shot it past 300m, but without measuring, I’m not even hitting the 8x8 plate without having to aim like… er… 9-11’’ low?
Probably a bit less than that, but I’m the suck at measuring.
It’s way higher than it should be though.
The short-dot is a better choice if money is not the issue.
Having experimented with 77gr and .308 ACOGs they don’t exactly match, they match better than 5.56 but you’d have to spend the time doping it out anyways.
What are you hoping to gain with the ACOG?
With the ACOG I was hoping to lose weight, gain simplicity, and not have to worry about batteries.
I guess I’m going with a S&B.
Thanks.
