77/44?

Anyone have one of these? Thinking of one and was curious if any issues/concerns.

I do not have one although I would like one, in .357 though. I’ve read a review or two on the .357 model, both of which we’re positive. Great lightweight walk around rifle with some thump. Has the rotary magazine which is generally speaking excellent and malfunction free. Most people say it’s good to a 100 yards or so. Search on ruger forum.

There are some outfits that convert them to integrally suppressed. I haven’t had much experience with them, but they are fun as all hell with heavy-bullet subsonic loads.

I have a 77/357. Fantastic little gun.

The only problems I’ve read about regarding the 44 specifically are that they can be picky with what they like to shoot well, a problem I have yet to encounter or really read about with the 357.

Also, the rotary mags can be wonky, so be sure to give each one you get a good once over and run through.

For me, I hate the rear flip up sight with a passion. After doing some research I decided to get a Skinner rear peep/aperture sight. Absolutely better and worth it.

I’m actually thinking of replacing/selling the 336 and 45-70, I have the 1894 now, was just looking into another .44. Mainly to narrow calibers down, simplify things for long term I guess. I like the ballistics on the heavy .44 loads from BB. I just developed a load for the SW Mountain and 1894, using 300 MP and 240 XTP’s. I was thinking on a Ruger S Redhawk which would allow heavier loads and easier to run an optic. Of course I could always get a twin to the 1894! But I love bolt guns.
