I got this rifle from Atlantic back when they were first released in their Gen2 form (I think Jan/Feb timeframe) and have a lot of time behind it; here’s what I’ve found:
Sustains:
-Takes the VAST majority of standard AK mags (all the specifics are in the video)
-100% reliable with the mags that function in it (see above)
-Accurate
-Has optics rail and doesn’t require a claw mount
-Extrememly light recoiling
-Uses a proven operating system
-Fit/finish are very good
-Accepts the majority of G3 accessories on the market
-Good host for a full auto sear
-Barrel is threaded (15x1) for HK sytle muzzle devices and supressors
-Much cheaper way to shoot a delayed roller type action than most that are chambered in 308
Improves:
-It’s heavy (just under 10lbs) however this aids in the very low recoil impulse
-Barrel isn’t CL/nitrided; of course that would add cost
Here’s the full review with lots of shooting, accuracy testing, and a discussion of the specs and pros/cons:
I’ve wanted one of these for far to long, stumbling across this didn’t help, I’ve heard reports of these chewing up brass- can you confirm that report or is it just a few possible flukes
a port buffer can normally be installed to help save your brass but the top rail prevents the installation of one. G3 type guns eat brass otherwise. On 7.62 nato it could be a big issue. With 7.62x39 i say shoot steel case and drive on.
plouffedaddy, thank you for the written and video review. Both are very informative. I have a few questions for you and anyone else who may have some thoughts on this.
What spare parts would you recommend an what do you see as potential problem areas if the gun was going to see heavy use?
Are the spare parts readily available?
Do the spare parts interchange with other guns (PTR or not PTR)? If so, which ones?
Great vid and review as always, plouffedaddy. I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for a while.
I couldn’t help but notice that is one heavy and large rifle, for being a 7.62x39 gun. It looks larger than, and is heavier than, most full size battle rifles.
I received mine from Bud’s. Haven’t shot it yet. I have a couple of Q’s. Are these parts guns built on new receivers? Do they come with used stocks and handguards? My impression was these were new production rifles. My furniture is also green painted. Should I be mad?
Short and to the point. Thanks. Im still waiting to hear from Buds. All the metal looks great, just the furniture looks like it spent time in a preschool art classroom, and their pet Gerbil chewed on it.
BTW keep the great videos coming. Your review helped my decision to get the PTR 32.
I got a response from the gun shop. They said to take it up with PTR. They don’t look in the boxes to make sure they send out the right item. So I sent a message to PTR and they got back to me right away. Called me within an hour actually. He wants me to send pics of the damaged furniture, and they can work with me on it. He also said it sounded like I got a version 1.5 which was before they were powdercoated and black furniture installed. So it sounds like a collectors item to me. But I’m gonna shoot it anyway. So, I give PTR customer service an A, and gun shop service a D. It took 3 days to get a response and that was just the “sailor salute”, it’s not our fault.
