Looking for input on running 7.5 Swiss out of a 14.5-16"-ish barrel. 18" would be the hard max for barrel length. Concerned about the amount of flash and ballistics coming from a significantly shorter barrel then the rifles typically encountered in this caliber. Max range this will be used at is 200 yards, possibly 300. Need to be able to kill a deer or similar sized game at those distances. Will a good .308 flash suppressor work well on this cartridge with these barrel lengths?
Long story short looking at building a scout rifle off a Swiss K31. I figure I can grab one for $200, can have the work done cheap to save a bunch of cash and can throw on a synthetic stock once the barrel is cut. I already have a bunch of 7.5 Swiss ammo, it’s similar ballistically to .308 Win, and I like the straight pull action of the K31’s.
Thoughts on this?
