7.5 inch AR-15 reliability

If I were to use a 7.5, it would have a flash suppressor on it. By the time you put a KX3 on it, you might has well have just gotten a MK18.

I was testing a lower a buddy recently built with my MODEL 1 7.5" upper. Thought I would share how that shitty, horribly built model one upper is still running flawlessly after tens of thousands of rounds even when suppressed and full auto.

Arguably, people don’t realize that 90% of the reliability of an upper IS the BCG gas ports being the same.

Here is a link to a newer 7.5" thread that I started that’s mighty damn interesting!

Can somebody please tell me the utility of this short of a barrel? The only reason one needs to go that short is because of the design of the AR in the first place (the buffer is behind the carrier instead of above it, which means you can’t use a folding stock).

10.5" is already loud as heck. I can only imagine how insane this would be in a vehicle - I’m sure you’d destroy your ear drums as you try to shoot out the window, unless you had a KX3 directing the blast forward, but even then it would be loud.

With the KX3, the overall weapon length with the stock retracted is about 25".

For 5.56, I would much rather run a SCAR-CQC (21" overall length with stock folded) with an M4-2000 (adding 5.1" to the length).

Much better would be an MP-5, I would think.

At times I have both back and wrist issues. I need a light gun for long demanding courses. In FEB for example I will be attending two classes within weeks of wrist surgery (most likely Ill be in a cast) so my 7.5" ar will be sweet since I will be running one handed the entire time.

Its also my HD gun. Its the shortest suppressed AR platform you will find. Yea a SCAR would be short with a stock folded but that will take away my option to shoulder the weapon. A folded stock rifle for me is only good for storage.

As for the noise, on the range it is not as bad as many would think. For HD, I run suppressed. Look two posts above for video of me running it suppressed and full-auto.

Even with the stock extended it’s as short as an AR-based PDW. I just don’t get it, I suppose…

Oh, and how much damage are you causing to your suppressor baffles with that short of a barrel?

We can’t take you serously when you are running a YHM rail, Model 1 upper, and some off brand silencer.

It has none.

People get all caught up in the gas port, buffer, etc when they shouldn’t even be worrying about it because the gun is usless anyway.

Alot and it also voids your silencer waranty.

I think there needs to be a tacked thread on this forum about the 7.5" issues so we don’t have to go through this bullshit every 2 weeks.

Useless is your opinion.
I have a 7.5" Rainier barrelled upper that has never missed a shot, suppressed, unsuppressed.
It’s been combat accurate at 100 yards. What’s useless about it?
It’s still a rifle bullet traveling over 2000fps.
I use expanding ammo so I don’t care about fragmentation.

Europeans have been rolling with sub 10" duty/combat guns for awhile without issue. Good examples being the SIG 553 and G36K

7.5" is too short for my tastes. The blast alone would be too annoying, as would be the reduced ballistics, but all the ones I have fired worked okay. Though, 10-10.5" is the magic number for me, but some people believe that is too short too despite years of service and being vetted by qualified people.

The blast is bad. Indoors it’s intolerable unless running a suppressor.
A 14.5" is pretty bad unsuppressed indoors too.

I’ve shot it outside with a Levang and it’s not too bad.

The bottom line.

Another reason I like the Levang

Don’t worry about it bro. There are some self proclaimed “SBR Experts” on this board that are sure of their own greatness on the subject. They are so sure that they become remarkabaly rude and obnoxious. Enjoy your gun. :thank_you2:

My friends tell me that the Sig 552 and HK53 lay the hurt on people just fine. It has a place.

Nope, don’t take me serious. There are several members here, several big name instructors, and several tens of thousands of rounds that have passed through this rifle that will vouch for the setup you are too short sighted to accept.

I think you need a drink buddy, and not the kool aid shit you are currently drinking.

Collapsed my 7.5" AR is 24 1/4" long and weighs 8# with an eotech, f&r BUIS, ASAP Plate, Suppressor Mount/FH, CTR stock, full XTM Rail Covers, and MIAD grip.

The SCAR CQC is 7# with nothing installed and 31" long collapsed. Thats almost 7" longer and probably heavier when you add the optics, BUIS, etc …

More noteworthy, my AR is probably less then 1/2 the price and when I built her, over 4 years ago, the SCAR option was non-existent.

I try not to run it much suppressed for this reason. I really see its big pro suppressed in the home defense arena.
