I think that the 77gr Nosler CC has been proven to be a great choice for OTM bullets in our .223 rifles, offering performance that rivals the 77gr SMK (TMKs may be another story).
My question is, outside of the 77gr Nosler CC for our 223’s, does anyone have any experience or thoughts about the performance of the 6mm Nosler CC offerings?
Specifically the 105 and 107 gr Nosler CC’s
I currently shoot 107 SMKs from my .243 and it does not have a fast enough twist for 115 DTACs (believe me I have tried) and I would like to find a less expensive alternative to the SMK for practice.
markm, if this drives up Nosler CC prices I will share some of my precious 77s with you, or offer up my first born… whichever you deem to be fair
I have not used the 6 mm CC’s - however I have used the 308 155’s + 190’s and 223 69’s and 77’s, all to good result. I also have some 264 123’s that I will be trying in my 6.5 Creedmoor, but have not gotten around to yet. Have had good results with all of them and roughly equivalent accuracy to Sierra’s all around. Of note, this was all through AR-15’s and 308 AR’s which average in the 0.75 MOA range - you may have different experiences if you are shooting a more accurate bolt gun (which I would gander you are, unless you have a large-frame AR in 6XC or 243 Win).
I have had pretty crazy tight groups with my 243 WSSM with 75gr Hornady Vmax bullets. Not exactly what you are asking, but its another 6mm round that I have had success with. Its a WSSM so I know your loads are different, but I’m using 46gr of H380 right at 3600 FPS and have been getting under .5 MOA in good weather conditions. These things just do some damage to coyotes, fox, etc. Bullet to consider in that 69-77gr weight area. I do like the SMK’s and will be trying out the TMK’s if I can get my hands on any soon.
Thanks for the info everyone. It seems like the Nosler Custom Comps may be a good practice bullet for most calibers if the shooter can find a good weight.
I think that I am going to have to bite the bullet (lame ass joke intended) and buy some to shoot and see for myself. Might as well get some 6.5s for the 6.5-284 as well.
Some day I will learn the lesson about not choosing barrel burner cartridges…
My father has one, in a Manlicher style stock, fantastic rifle for an amazing hunter. He literally has cupboards full of the antlers he hasn’t bothered to mount, plus 2 rooms full of ones he has mounted, 90% taken with that Rem 600. I load 87gr HP’s for him/that rifle that are just silly accurate and absolutely devastating on small to medium sized game.
