6094 Plate carrier set up. Rifle Tacos outside, or use the Kangaroo internal pouch?

I’m planning on putting together a LBT 6094 plate carrier I was wondering what peoples preferences were as far as rifle mag placement. What tends to work better, Using the internal kangaroo pouch or HSGI rifle tacos attached to the molly on the front?

Use the Kangaroo’s. They’re probably one of my favorite systems for carrying the first 3 mags.

Depends on whether you shoot prone a lot and what type of mags (556 or 762).

I used to use the LBT accessory front plate carrier known as the 6094K front (which can either be for M4 or M14 mags). There is another one that can be used for M4 or MP7 mags, but unless you have a MP7 it really isnt worth the extra cost. It was a nice add on (extra) plate carrier that does not use a kangaroo pouch, but has external 2x3 mag pouches sewn on the front. It sis designed to allow you to mission customize your existing 6094 by upgrading the kit to add extra mags. You can also find the older ones, that have velcro strips inside that allow you to add or remove kydex inserts to hold mags with the flap open, so if you pull one mag the remaining one stays put (not for the 762 mags)…

If you dont want to spring for an extra plate carrier…I like the internal kagaroon pouch insert from LBT since it is basically a nylon folded pouch with removeable bunghee straps. It only costs $30 or so. If you use a standard cummerbund, you can also stuff spare mags into the slots where the soft armor goes or put a single spare mag in each side where the MBITR pouch is sewn into the cummerbund. That way you can limit the snag hazard and/or add external pouch for med kits, water or whatever.

LBT also makes a special cummerbund for a Tier 1 unit, and it is called a Humpy Bund…dont know why. It has the same look as the standard cummerbund, but it is lower in side profile, but you can buy the same style kydex inserts and they insert between the sides of the cummerbund and store there. You can fit 2 mags on each side of the cummerbund and also into the MBITR pouch, but it can get uncomfortable if you shoot prone alot.

If you call LBT, not all the sales people know if as the Humpy bund. It is the cummerbund off the LBT 6094 Underway Vest (6094UW) and it comes in all the same colors, but I think they may only have it is stock in Multicam and Desert Tan.

I have not been too fond of Taco style mag holders since they seem to snag at the worst possible time, especially when your vehicle is on fire.

Good luck. I hope it helps.

Prefernce. Try both and see what works for you.

I run an SKD PIG carrier with the kangaroo inserts, and the Pig BMP’s on the front for ten mags up front and I’m prone quite a bit. It’s surprisingly low profile for M4 mags. I thnk the 6094 is a little bulkier than the SKD Pig though.

Thanks for the input guys. I’m hoping to give the Kangaroo pouch a shot this weekend. I have a 6094A and kangaroo pouch coming on Friday from LBT. Doing Advanced Defensive Rifle at Sig Sauer Academy in October and I’ll do some experimenting with my gear over the next month or so.

That class will for sure help you figure out if your gear is good to go for you. Range time with gear doesn’t really compare to that type of aggressive training to test set ups IMO.

Now I need to find plates for the 6094. What do people generally do for plate carries in a class? If you go ceramic/ESAPI you run the risk of damaging them. For my class in October, I may pick up a set of the Team Wendy training ESAPI plates so I have something in there to simulate the feel/weight of plates .vs not having anything in the 6094 for the class and try to hunt down a deal on level IV ESAPIs. When looking at plates/armor I feel like there’s so much stuff out there and trying to find good stuff that fits your particular carrier is a huge undertaking.

Get some training plates for general use. Drop back in your real plates as soon as you pack up to leave.

Also, remember that actual ESAPIs require soft armor. They’re not stand alone plates.

total derail, but if you are prone a lot you can wear your mags on the upper portion of the carrier. mags are accessible from prone and you are more flat.

Well, they do offer stand alone ESAPI plates, don’t they?

I’d check out bulletproofme.com for more info on plates and soft armor.
