I was originally looking at 556 rifles for home defense, but then I decided I would like to be able to hunt with it as well. With the advances in the AR platform, I feel like I could get a semi auto to be more accurate than me and have great reliability (I secretly wanted to move away from bolt and standard hunting rifles). The two main choices I was considering were the 6.8 and 308. I liked the 308 because of the cheap brass and bullet energy, but pretty much everything else was drawback - recoil, mag capacity, length, weight, price, muzzle blast, bullet selection (my preference). People are probably going to say that I am crazy about 308 bullet selection as a negative, but I am talking strictly about my criteria for bullet performance. To me, the 6.8 85 TSX is similar to the 308 110 TSX, 110 Hornady BTHP to Nosler 125 BT, but there really is no bullet similar to the 95 ttsx mainly because of the low 1600 minimum velocity for expansion. After doing more research on the 6.8, I came to realize that it would be a great solution for me. Also, it still gives me the ability to change the bolt, barrel, mag and swap to 556 for cheaper plinking. I would like to give a special thanks to DocGKR and Constructor for their wealth of knowledge, and to this and other forums.
I really like it. The main reason I got the adac-f was to be able to hold the bolt back with the mag button. This helps greatly with clearing malfunctions - quicker and you can keep your gun up on target.
Very nice
Harrison builds great uppers (I have owned 2) and knows a ton about the 6.8 and was very instrumental to itβs success for the hunting market.
I have used just about every bullet out there but have pretty much been using the 95 TTSX exclusively since I got my first batch of preproduction samples.
68 will never be a great long range round but it does excel at a hunting round out to 400 yards
