590sp vs 590a1 for patrol

Hey guys as I’m sure all of you know it’s getting pretty difficult to find anything gun related in stock. Well it’s time for me to get a new duty shotgun and I was wondering what y’all thought about getting a 590sp and using it for patrol and the. When needed upgrade the safety trigger housing and barrel to the a1? I found a basically brand new 590sp at a very good price considering the market and I can’t find a a1 for under 650 anywhere. What are y’all’s thoughts. Will the sp handle the banging around as I will be using this gun for many training clinics and classes. Thanks for the input

I have 590SPs and 590A1s, a 20" of the former has been on the road for a number of years and several classes. A metal safety button is a worthwhile upgrade on the SP, but the balance of the gun is fine. If you want the other upgrades, you may as well spend the extra for an A1 at the outset which is only minimally more than the SP when last I bought shotguns.

Reach out to a Mossberg LE dealer such as Aimpro. http://aimprotactical.com/

Most folks don’t benefit from the heavy walled barrel.

I agree with both of the above 2 statements.

I agree with the above statement on the upgrades putting the sp over the a1 in money spent. But as of right now I can get a sp that’s almost brand new for about 275 cheaper than a used or fairly new a1. And if the sp can handle patrol work and daily drops and bumps hitting doors and frames then should I just go with the sp and get a metal safety until something breaks if it breaks. Thanks again guys for the input

I like my A1 just because the weight helps somewhat with recoil,I also like the fact that you could really whack something with it and only hurt what your whacking. I’ve got a scatergun technology 870 side saddle and ghost rings and all I can let you have right if your interested.
