I recently bought a 557 and I notice that it is a lot higher than the 512,when it comes to using my back up sight, is this normal?
Yes it is normal. With the release of both the 557 and 553, the EOTech’s sit higher and allow the iron sights to align in the lower 1/3rd of the sight.

I BZO’d my irons with my EOTech mounted but I guess you could without the sight on. I’d recommend just leaving the sight turned off but remaining on rifle and zeroing through the sight since that is how you will use the irons if you need them.
Yep, that’s how I did it. Also just FYI the LaRue Po Boy Special works great with the 557…
