50 Shades Of Whey!

Put together a free report covering major topics of whey protein as an EPub doc. so most E-reader programs via comp, tablets, phone, etc can read it. Can be found on Kobo:

Fifty Shaded Of Whey

The title a play on the cheesy book of soft porn/romance so popular currently.

Blurb from report:

"Whey protein is one of the most popular protein supplements sold. It’s used by athletes of all kinds and those looking to benefit from this protein, that has literally been used as a medicinal food for thousands of years. However, much confusion over whey abounds. What types are best? Isolates or concentrates? Grass fed organic whey best? Can it help with weight loss? What about cancer and immunity? Where does whey come from and what about compounds within whey (such as lactoferrin) that have their own potential benefits?

Fifty Shades Of Whey will clear up the confusion – using objective science based information vs. marketing and hyperbole so common – to help users of this food supplement make smart decisions on whey proteins."

The price is right!

Sounds like a good and interesting book to read.
I’ll surely gonna get one for sure.

And it’s free…

Speaking of whey, does anyone know of a sugar & artificial sweetener free protein powder?

There’s plenty around. I get mine from the Life Extension (LEF.org) which contains CFM whey isolate (covered in report if interested in what that is vs other whey), stevia, flavor (i like vanilla) and added lactoferrin.* I believe they also still have an unflavored version if you want no flavors at all.

*= a peptide found in whey with various potential benefits also covered in the report and or on my web site.

I downloaded kobo and your book but after download it is saying the book is only 2 pages. After seeing the quality of information you presented Im interested in what you have to write on whey in hopes there will be some info i have not come across in my studies.

If you might have any suggestions on what i might be doing wrong.

I would like to read before i start firing off questions. Not necessarily on the protein but your views on some of the types of whey. I do not want to waste your time asking questions that the book answers.

Edit: i read the short articles on your time website (50shadesofwhey.com), and i have to say that you have some of the most in depth accurate information on whey i have ever red or heard. The only other places i have seen or heard this caliber of work is in collegiate text books, and from collegiate professors. I would also say on the topic of whey protein your knowledge rivals that of university professors!!!

I do not remember the brand of hydrolyzed whey it was, but it was one of the first companies to put it out. It almost made me yak when drinking but i have never seen the gains i had with that protein. I was actually asked by a few people if i was juicing. They did not last long though.

Still trying to get book

Edit 2 working now

Edit 3 from reading your about the author i now know why everything is so exceptionally well written and informative. I can’t wait to read more. Excellent job!!!

How did you make out with the info?

The type of Whey Protein I consume is sourced from 100% grass-fed organic cows and is low-temperature extracted and dried. Also, it is in the form of Concentrate versus the Isolate which scientific studies have proven can be toxic to the human body over time and is harder to absorb.

I enjoyed reading 50 Shades of Whey. Full of very good information, and now when I read a bottle of whey I understand some of the terms.
I was still a little lost trying to decide on a specific whey. I bought a bottle of Optimum Gold Standard, which is WPI with concentrates added, and specifically mentions lactoferrin. I’m sure there are better out there, I just couldn’t find them.

Are there any brands that you recommend?

Try Dr. Mercola’s brands… That is what I use. I have had great results with them and from the lengthy articles and research I have done they are the highest quality available. I have had great results as well, which I do attribute to his Whey Protein, not solely, but it certainly was a major contributor. I lost about 90lbs within 1.5-2 years and gained like 20+ lbs of muscle. His Whey Protein is the only I have ever seen that is fermented with probiotic bacteria, 100% Grass-Fed natural , Low-Temperature dried Concentrate. He has like two or three different types of Whey Protein he sells. There are few other natural whey proteins I thought were of decent quality, including the Goat Protein powder from Garden of Life and MT Capra products. I try to stick all natural, as I don’t have lot of faith in synthetically isolated Whey proteins. Most on the market use very low-grade ingredients and add much of crap supplements to boost the advertising value and price. I’d rather take those supplements separately, such as Creatine/NADH, etc.

Complete and total BS. Show me a single modern published study that confirms those silly statements.

Sorry, Mercola et al (all trying to sell you their highly over priced “organic grass fed yada yada” whey…) pseudo science does not fly with people who actually know whey.

First thing you have to ask, “better” for what? In terms of cost effective generally good quality, and being used for added protein, what you are using is fine as Optimal is owned by Glanbia, an excellent company.

I like CFM isolate (covered in the 50 shades book) which I get from Life Extension (www.lef.org), which is CFM isolate, added lactoferrin, and mild sweetended with stevia.

Thanks for the information, I’m glad that I didn’t do too bad at the store.

My primary concern is that I don’t want to be missing any beneficial subfractions of whey and I want the protein to be of good quality. For example, the whey that I have states it has lactoferrin, but doesn’t say how much…it could have a miniscule amount and I wouldn’t know. I am using the whey to support my protein needs now that I am regularly working out again, but I also want to benefit from these subfractions that are mentioned in the book.

My secondary concern is that my taste buds tell me most whey protein powders are grossly over-sweetened. I have thrown away whey in the past because of this. The whey that I have now is tolerable, but I would prefer less sweet. I will try a bottle of CFM once I finish my current bottle.

Thanks!

It’s hard to know as companies don’t generally test their whey for subfractions but do make all sorts of impressive claims in their marketing. However, if their manufacturing process is good, and they use a process known to retain fractions and don’t denature the protein, should be OK. There’s a handful of major whey manufacturers which supp companies purchase from, which they don’t divulge to buyers making that much more difficult for one to know what they are buying.

You can get un flavored whey also and the LEF is very mild flavor wise.

I hardly call it overpriced, compared to a lot of the other mass-produced garbage out there…

There is nothing new about promoting Concentrate over the Isolates… Isolates are easier to produce and have been known in bodybuilding community for years to not be as easy to assimilate in the body compared to the concentrates. You lose the full spectrum of nutrients which helps digestion and absorption when you isolate a substance.

I’m not claiming to be a guru or biochemist with in-depth research backing up everything I say. I have read enough articles to convince me, but I am open to hearing an opposing view and changing my mind.

Prove to my why Whey Protein Isolate is safe and better or equal in quality to the Concentrate. I like to know. There is plenty of articles proving why low-heat protein is better for the human body than pasteurized or heat-processed milk protein. I have hard time tolerating pasteurized milk, whereas raw milk makes me feel very energized without all the allergy symptoms I get from the heated, denatured milk.

Grass fed milk also contains full spectrum of nutrients including CLA/Omega 3s. The GMO corn/soy fed commercial milk from holstein cows, contains high amounts of Omega 6, denatured protein and the cows are usually in poor health, requiring lot of antibiotics/medications to keep them alive for production.

I’ve tasted unflavored whey protein from grass-fed organic cows from a company called Premier Nutiriton Labs and its yummy. Smells nice too. I’ve tasted whey protein isolates without flavoring from some of the big vendors and that is some nasty stuff… No wonder they have to put so many additives and artificial flavors into them.

Anyway, I have had great results using Mercola’s WHey along with my Grass-Fed organic raw milk… YMMV

Mercola = worthless info on whey using pseudo science to sell his whey

Yes there is.

100% False. I have done consulting work for major whey manufacturers, written more on whey then anyone alive, spoken at functional food conferences at universities (as the only non PhD invited to speak) and have been published in the peer reviewed lit on whey. You? Mercola? That would be no and no I’m guessing.

Thus, I know a thing or two about whey. It’s one of my personal interests and I communicate with the researcher for which all whey benefits we know of, and why it sells to this day, semi regularly since he published has data in the early 80s. His name is Dr Bounous.

Again false. You made a statement:

“…which scientific studies have proven can be toxic to the human body over time”

I challenged you to back it up, and so far, you got nadda but more BS claims and zero studies to supply. Who was the first person to write a major article on whey in body building community? That would be me.

More Mercola BS. Give me a list of the specific nutrients “lost” that are required for digestion/absorption.

Then don’t step on your own dick with statement like “…which scientific studies have proven can be toxic to the human body over time”

What you seem to have read is Mercola et al marketing materials to sell his/their whey.

Science 101: The burden of proof is with he who makes the claim. Thus, prove to me isolates are unsafe compared to concentrates.

And the above has zero to do with concentrate vs isolate. You realize you’re in a thread that leads you to a free report on whey you can read that will help clue you in? It covers the actual differences between Isolate vs concentrates minus the Mercola et al pseudo science.

I have had a few people tell they wanted to read that report but didn’t have a Kindle. You DON’T need a kindle to read kindle books. Amazon has free apps to read kindle books on pretty much anything. As expected, they don’t push that as they want to sell Kindle readers, but here’s where you can get the reader apps if you don’t have a Kindle:
