Do any of you guys have one? And what do you think of it?
I had one, it worked very well. ![]()

Do you know the case size at the base is it 0.4210 or bigger? Thanks
I think it’s bigger than that. It’s similar to a .50AE but a lot longer, it uses a 7.62x39mm AR bolt. The one to ask for technical details is member Bill Alexander.
Thanks that answered my question. I am thinking of doing a lefty to go with my other personal guns in lefthand.
I always wondered if the recoil of those things battered the rifles much more than the .223 chambering.
I’m considering building a .50 Beowulf AR myself.
Is the ammo hard to come by?
And does the OP realize that he referred to everyone as ‘gays’? ![]()
My bad.
I’ve had one for a little while now, and I’ve only put about 80 rounds through it so far.
Ammo is not impossible to get, but it’s not readily available either. My impression is that the folks who use them a lot get into loading their own. I think AA makes ammo in batches only occasionally during the year - I just this week received a case I’d ordered from AA about six months ago.
It’s a fun gun, but very different from anything else I’ve ever shot. Bullet drop is significant; I think it’s ~42" at 300 yards. It’s also unlikely you’ll go through ammo at anywhere near the rate you might use 5.56. 17 rounds is the most I’ve managed in a single day, and I had the Beowulf tattoo to attest to it.
Here’s a 7.62x39mm bolt on the left and a Beowulf bolt on the right:

The bolt on the left is a 7.62x39 bolt either an original from Colt or a new patern machined by Stag Arms.
The bolt on the right is not a Beowulf, if it was the bolt face would be the identical diameter to the 7.62x39.
A cursury examination of this photo suggests that this bolt is rather one opened up for a 308 diameter rim.
If this bolt is being used in a Beowulf then you need to contact me and get the weapon inspected. Do not fire any further ammunition. My office number is 540 639 8356.
Ammunition for the Beowulf is run continuously although we do switch between loadings so we do not always have everything in stock. Typically we run between 70,000 and 100,000 rounds per month. We are expanding the loading capacity at this time with two other manufacturers. Backorders on ammunition are usually confined to the 400 grain Hawk loading which can run as long as 12 weeks, all other grades are usually available.

That’s very interesting. I’d wondered a little bit about the relative size of the bolt faces, but that is the bolt that came in my Beowulf, purchased (I thought) new in 2007.
I’ve called Bill’s office and he’s out for SHOT until next Thursday. I most certainly will be following up on this.
Keeping with my original Q do you are some one else have a .50 case to get a size off of?I need to know for the bolt face size. Short of me buying some ammo. Thanks
Just back from SHOT and this is a priority.
For quick reference your bolt face diameter should be 0.454" while the case rim is 0.441". The difference is to allow the rim to pivot out of the bolt recess without binding when it gets across the angle.

Bill, I just advised your office that I will call you this afternoon regarding the bolt pictured above.
Great round, a lot of fun to shoot. Will definetly put a smile on the face of any recoil junkie like myself. Not sure I’d want to tackle one set to full auto though
