5.56 for Hunting / HD that is available?

I’ve got 3 BCM and DD AR’s ranging from 11.5 to 18’’ barrel all with either a 1:7 or 1:8 twist rate. I’m looking at the best heavier grain round that I can use for hunting and HD in all 3 guns that is accurate / available / prefer not to pay $1.50 a round. I’ve been using the Fusion 62 grain load as I can get it at WalMart but haven’t been thrilled with the accuracy. I’ve read the recommended rounds by the dentist that moved from here to another forum. I would prefer a heavier 70+grain bullet in a 5.56 caliber but I’m not opposed to using 223. Recommendations / links appreciated.

I’ve only seen 1 deer taken with .223 and that was a spike buck. The round was Win 64gr Power Point out of a Mini 14. Range was about 60 yards. Shot placement was ideal. Deer ran about 20 yards and went down. Midway shows it as in stock.
FWIW
YMMV

You should check out Skypup’s thread in the hunting section. He has had excellent success with the TSX 70 grain bullet from Barnes

Great info on SkyPup’s thread but it looks like the Barnes 70gr TSX load is a handload. I don’t currently reload so need factory ammo. Is the Barnes 70 gr TSX load in factory ammo - I checked Midway and it appears to be bullet only. Is there something better or comparable in factory? Anybody used the 62 grain Fusion in deer, hog or coyote?

Thanks

Silver State armory produces factory TSX loads. Remington’s Hog Hammer line is TSX. So does Black Hills.

The Hornady GMX bullet is the exact same idea. There are Hornady TAP loads available with their GMX.

There are several recent and on-point threads about the use of .223/5.56 ammunition for hunting and self defense, including the heavies. I recommend reviewing and reviving those if you have additional questions.
