New to the forum and this is my first question.
Anybody know what size rod and jags and brushes to get for cleaning the Smith & Wesson AR in 5.45x39 ?

There was some discussion about cleaning 5.45 in the Other Assault Rifles section. I use a .22 KleenBore jag and a 5.56 bronze brush. A .22/5.56 rod should work as well. At least in my expereince with an 5.45 AK. YMMV.
I use 5.56 brushes that have already been broken in. I hose mine down with a 1:10 ratio of Ballistol and clean it using the same method as any other AR.
A 5.56 nylon brush works for me. The 5.56 jag is too big and that’s when I use the .17 jag and rod.
I run mine with my used 5.56 brushes.
I use boiling water and windex primarily.
On occasion I use something stronger, (Gun Scrubber) like when I shoot A LOT of rounds (many, many, many hundreds) and the mess calls for it.
lube it back up with some Mobile 1 and I’m off to the races.
?Many, many, many hundreds? That is a lot?
Ok yeah that kinda only looks like 300 rds… lol
My point was if i run a course where I put a 1k rds of the Russian surplus out I may or may not hit it with something harder than just the windex and hot water.
Especially if I am not in a position to clean when I get home from the training and my rig sits for a few days before I get to it.
Let me add that I shoot the Russian surplus and it’s not a dirty ammo. I would say it shoots as clean as Lake City 5.56.

I was curios if the 5.56 jag would work but I guess I can step down to 20 cal jag and patches if i want to run them through.
