5.11 Covert Bag

Anyone have any experience with this bag? http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products/Bags-Backpacks/COVRT/COVRT-M4.html

Looks interesting. If it’s built like the rest of their bags, should be quality. I’m not a 5.11 hater.

I saw that bag in one of their new mags and am also looking for a good review. It looks good and stealthy.

O

it doesn’t look normal.

My advice is if you haven’t worn sling style packs before, see if you can borrow one. Some people don’t care for how they ride. I felt like my shoulder was being twisted with only minor loads (less than 8lbs) in the sling bags I have tried.

I have tried two different ones and I just don’t find them comfortable, I am of average build in good health and without back problems just to clarify.

I don’t care for about 90% of 5.11, as I believe their quality swings and I have had problems with some of their gear. I have their concealed carry vest and it is a quality piece of gear but I am cautious when buying 5.11.

I agree with poster above it doesn’t look normal, nor does it look ergonomic. If your needs are to conceal a collapsed AR then it should fit the bill then but if your needs are other than that I would looks elsewhere.

i have a dual rifle case from 5.11. it broke. i had to spend money on webbing and triglides to make it actually capable of holding two guns. i don’t really like 5.11 stuff.

that bag still looks weird though. it doesn’t look like it serves a normal function of holding something that’s discernible as normal… hence it’s not really covert. imagine when you’re wearin’ it around and someone says… what the hell you got in there?

Thanks guys. Not much out there for covert bags aside from a break down case or the rectangle cases. Looks like I’m leaning towards the LWRC guitar case, but that suckers about 6" too long at 38".

Not sure how covert you wish to be , but this is a 29" bag so it looks less rifle-ish, plus this is US made and I know Hawke personally as he sold me my sewing machine and we both worked as Paramedics for the same company , good guy with great products

I’ve also had spotty quality from 5.11, some stuff is fine and a few things have simply fallen apart. It’s all made overseas. I hadn’t seen that 5.11 bag until now. Good idea, and doesn’t look too much like a gun bag but I just don’t care for the sling type set-up. My SOTECH go-bag is great quality and fits a broken down SBR but it’s a sling also and not that comfortable to wear either. Wish they put two straps on 'em.

I will also vouch for Hawkepak stuff. Reasonable price and built to last. Great customer service too.

The Hawkepak looks good, but it’s not that discreet looking, that’s what caught my eye with the 5.11 bag.

The 5.11 bag is a copy of other designs that try to appear like a skateboard bag.

Noveske also sells this one, made by first spear

I have a Noveske bag, and can vouch for its quality. I have one of the first run discreet bags, and like it a lot. It looks like a simple backpack.

I really like the Noveske bag. It does not look like anything special and does not attract any unwanted attention.

$200 is too steep for a range bag.

The 5.11 is an interesting design, borrowing…heavily…from others. As they often do.

5.11 quality is always suspect, but I have not seen one of this particular offerings in person. I will look for one.

Looking at the linked bag, it looks to only fit SBR/NFA AR weapons. My standard overall length for bags to carry a 16" M4orgery is 33". This bag measures 32". Their is a comment on 5.11 link indicating it will not hold a Rock River Arms.

Count me as a 5.11 hater. I’ve purchased two jackets, several MOLLE pouches, their BBS and a few assorted items from 5.11. None of these items were high quality, though the old concealed trenchcoat wasn’t too bad.

The 3-in-1 parka and MOLLE gear I purchased were on the lower quality end of the spectrum. Their open top M-16 magazine pouches should have been aborted in the womb - cheap, thin material and way too tight bungee. Their dump pouches are cheap, thin materials, but a decent copy of the higher-priced Maxpedition.

I’ve looked at their concealed carry backpack and Select Carry Sling Pack at my local LE uniform retailer… Buy at a discount. I have purchased most of my 5.11 gear at a steep discount from MSRP. That reduces the sting a little, but it is often poorly designed and a dubious value.
