.458 SOCOM Ammunition

Very nice.

A friend of mine just bought one of these from Wilson Combat and loves it.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do most people use these for? Hunting? Just curious because at 2.50 a round, it obviously isn’t a plinker/range gun I would assume.

Hog hunting, deer hunting, black bear hunting. It is like a semi auto 45-70.

Two and a half bux a shot! Yikes!

Think of how much meat you are getting for that price!

Hey, at least it ain’t $4+ a round like 338 Lapua (data from ammunitiontogo.com).

I load my own 458 SOCOM but if I didn’t and wanted to hunt with it, that would not be a bad price considering all the other costs of hunting.

(a few of the premium ammos for 300 win mag at ammunitiontogo.com show $2.50 a shot as well)

I shoot a lot more than I hunt. The way I look at it, the bullets are 40 cents each, the brass 70 cents, powder ten cents, primer, four, total $1.24 each for materials. I reckon $2.50 isn’t so bad for custom ammo. I will get into 458 SOCOM soon and plan to reload for less than fifty cents each not counting brass cost. I planned to use Remington 300 grain bulk bullets. I’ve got 500 stashed, I guess that will hold me for a while. I also have a 450 Bushmaster I am working on a load now, 230 grain round nose 45 ACP pistol bullet which will cost less than forty cents even including amortization on the brass.

Then again, I have a buddy who shoots 505 Gibbs, a box of 10 from Norma is $180, same price as a box of my 5.45 mm ammo but there’s a thousand and eighty in my box.
