Why the Marine Corps Killed Sniper School | The Four Horsemen
So if you haven’t heard of AJ Pasciuti or the Combat Story podcast. He was a Scout Sniper and Recon Marine. And in this episode he and his buddies talk about the past, present and future of the Marine Scout Sniper, Recon and the new MOS of Scouts. I thought that this episode was extremely insightful, funny, and educational on not only leadership but also the adaptability and lack of adaptability of the Military and the Marine Corps as a whole. I might have been a POG Airwinger, but I got a lot out of this, and thought I would share
I’m no “Operator”, but back while most of you were in grade school I attended a few “Elite Technical Schools”. I’m also no Marine, I was Army.
I’ve seen great curriculum and learning opportunities killed by entrenched Cronyism and Bias by Guys who likely had the best of inital intentions to start off with but,…Just because someone can do something very exceptional doesn’t mean those same people are good instructors.
You pretty much have to be able to set your ego aside for a minute to teach someone and be able to provide answers to their specific questions

Totally agree. They do a really good job of breaking down the cultural norms that tend to stand in the way of any actual progress. Towards the end they go into a lot of the teachings to keep a Infantry Soldier (Marine) alive in combat, but that the curriculum doesn’t really reward a progressive or aggressive mindset rather than a risk adverse methodology. I look at my current situation at work and our corporate structure and see the same failings due to my company being almost 100 years old. They hire these free thinkers and people who are highly educated in the company for their “NCO” core and then have Corporate constantly scoff at their methods
