.338lm

Anybody having a problem chambering 338 brass?. I recently received 300 rounds of once fired Brittish brass from a friend/sniper instructor. The brass measured out well and I was excited.

Shot 70 rounds yesterday and had nothing but trouble hitting at short distances 550y, same hole at 100y, and chambering/un-chambering brass.

PROBLEMS.
Tight fit in chamber.
Brass base is scored from extractor circular physical brass removal.
Extractor very tight on bullet case removal.

THOUGHTS.
I did not trim cases, they were in value. “I Thought”
No sign of over pressure, primer is looking good and no damage to case.
Shooting VV N165, per Sierra load book. “Next week R-25”
This brass is supposed to be Lapua contract brass. It came from Brit S/F AI rifles.
RAUI is what I recall the brass is named.
Need to get one load/complete cycle thru the rifle to fire form to my chamber for possible better fit.

OVERVIEW/CONDITIONS.
No fun at all. full value cross wing 17/23 mph, heavy mirage. Tired, impatient and uncomfortable positions. Breathing sucked, bolt through sucked, bagged position sucked, My dope got destroyed after my water spilled and the data card sat in 1 inch of water for a couple of hours. The weather was nice.

Shooting the 338 yesterday was just hard work, not fun at all. I worked harder on it then my 308 cuz NOTHING was working right. I pushed the 338, I needed to work thru the problem, not just shift rifles so I can have target engagement success.

Stiller TAC 338 action, Krieger #9 barrel, Manners glass/carbon stock, Vias brake, S&B PMII scope.

I need to overcome the brass issue, the rest is in my head, That part I can fix by removing my head from my ass.

Hey Dirk,

1-Laminate DOPE card.
2-Dryfire in positional shooting or prone at home.
3-Pick early morning or time when wind is down.
4-Come on down to Vegas and have fun doing all the above.

Talk to you later,

Phil

Phil. Great advise, from a Great shooter. If I had your money and your skills set, I’d go to both RO and Thunder Ranch. Sadly some of as are just broke pog cops, shooting scrouged brass, collecting aluminum cans to sell for bullets and powder to load and shoot.

I’ll get the brass figured out, the rest of the "thiking out loud’ is to remind me that training isn’t always gonna be fun, and that when it’s not fun is most likely when I’m learning the most about this weapons platform.

last winter on a few occassions I would lay out in a snow bank hide at -7 degree’s wind howling at dusk/dark, target at 2, 3 or 4 hundred yards “Light stick tagged” Couldn’t feel my feet, my teeth chattering so hard I thougth the emamel was going to come off. Trigger finger numb and my balls frozen to the ground.

Sucked it up and made that one perfect shot each time. That Phil is what it’s all about. But then I know that you know that aswell. Phil thanks for being there as a friend and coach.

If it wern’t for You, Jeff and Marc I’d still be shooting at 100y, only in ideal conditions to this day.
