300 BLK VOR-TX vs. Level IIIA Body Armor

I shot this barrier-blind round through Level IIIA body armor and into ballistics gel to see how well it would expand.

As you would expect, the bullet punched right through the soft armor, but its expansion was hindered. Regardless, the wound channel was still impressive, with a maximum bullet expansion of 0.606" combined with tumbling damage from 9-13" in.

The video is giving me trouble after about 30 seconds so I can’t see if its mentioned but is this supersonic or subsonic?

The Barnes VOR-TX 110gr 300 BLK load is supersonic, averaging about 2050fps from my SBR.

Thanks for doing these. I always enjoy your videos. Of course, none of it really matters for me since I can’t find any 300 ammo for my new DD. I hope you get a chance to test some subs.

Thanks!

I’m going to send a Remington factory 220gr subsonic at this panel later this week, as long as I get the work done on the other two videos I have planned. Being that the 220gr load is about the same as a hot 45ACP load, I don’t see the SMK bullet shape being enough to overcoming the IIIA panel when we already know the KE won’t be enough.

…but, it will be fun to see what happens.

Good lord that would hurt wearing that vest though.

I’ve been wondering this for a while. I look forward to this.

Excellent video, btw.
