I know Robinson Arms said they are working on a 300 BLK folder (piston SBR), but I haven’t seen anything yet. LWRCi was working on a psd in 300 as well, but were having gas issues.
Does anyone know of a piston SBR in 300 BLK that are out there and ready to go? I wanna say there has been some issues with the gas system working for subsonic, super sonic, and suppressed in both types of ammo. Obviously an adjustable piston would be needed, but I thought I would see if anyone else has heard or knows anything.
No, I know the AR platform, but there are several piston guns, like the Robarms, ACR, SCAR, sig, etc. They have folders in other calibers like 6.8 SBR’s. I am saying that I would like a folder, but I haven’t see any piston guns period so far that are 300 BLK in a short bbl (except…“we are working on it, but they are not ready”). Thanks, I will look around a bit more and check out the link above.
Funny you mentioned that, I just saw a write up of these in a magazine yesterday. I was planning on shooting them an email to see where they are at with the 300 BLK. Again, I think there is something holding companies up with the gas system, and issues with over-gas when running super-sonic ammo suppressed. Obviously, this can be fixed with an adjustable, but I think they still need to to be able to run in any config. with any ammo and be safe. I know some companies were having issues, that were over-gassed at a non-safe level…we’ll see what RRA says
Sorry to Necro, but I think this is relevant and wished to share. I saw this thread about 3 weeks ago when I too was curious about putting on a 300BLK barrel on my TTR and making it a TTR AR Pistol.
So…after a bit of research and wrenching (gawd the torque and heat required to disassemble a LR300 upper…) here it is in prototype form.
The stock buffer/operating spring is a tad stiff for 300BLK with a 10.5" barrel (carbine gas length).
I loaded 150gr H110 16gr ~47000 CUP caused the action to 1/2 extract the casing and the same with 130gr H110 19gr ~48000CUP
Using 110gr carbine bullets with H110 20gr ~50000 CUP almost worked. I got one round to extract normally and the rest got caught on the extraction port window.
Initial shooting characteristics was not surprising. With the DIGS system and cartridge characteristics, there was very little barrel flip.
If you have questions or comments, please reply. I will update later today on the gun for I took some coils off the buffer/OP spring (and ordered 2 more from Numrich) to allow the operating system to extract cleanly.
