My wife had her 3rd open heart to replace a bad valve 4 months a go and sadly a ton of my personal collection had to be sold to help pay the everyday bills. In the next few months our company gives out a yearly bonus. I am planning on building a new rifle to replace the ones I sold. I can’t decide if I want to build a 300 blackout or a 5.56 AR15. I don’t own any suppressors anymore or SBRs and the latest build will be a 16 inch build. I understand what the 300 black out is designed for and best at,I just don’t know if I want to invest in that round or the 5.56 round. I currently have no rifles, not sure where I want to start at rebuilding round wise. Any help would be much appreciated. I love my AK’s but I like the AR more for its customization
For a non-SBR and non-suppressed build I would go the 5.56 route.
I agree. A major benefit of the 300 BLK is the ability to go short without as much of a velocity loss. Especially if you have sold all of your other rifles and are ‘starting over,’ the 5.56 makes the most sense.

Well 5.56 is about 100 bucks cheaper per 1K. I started with 5.56 might as well start back with it.
Since you posted this in the precision riffle section I assume that you are building for accuracy and range, so 5.56 would get the nod from me.
Agreed. Go 5.56. Unless you are going short and quiet, no need to waste money on .300 blk ammo.

I agree with the others. You’ll be able to rebuild quicker with 5.56, at least ammunition wise. Also, going 16" and unsuppressed screams 5.56. The 300 really shines in a suppressed SBR, but when going with a longer range precision rifle, 5.56 wins out in my opinion.
