Really confused on the 300 blk dies- I have a Dillon 650- SO
Should I really go with the 3 die set from Dillon- as these are carbide
Or buy other- RE: Forester- RCBs- Redding??- their sizing die is steel
And- do I really need the crimp die-Dillon- as I am only loading Hornady

I’m not an expert, but I like the Lee Factory Crimp die over the Dillon… I do like crimping, FWIW, but I’m not sure how much it’s needed.
I shoot only subsonic, my brass doesn’t stretch much at all, and I wouldn’t pay a premium for carbide, YMMV.
Carbide is more important for straight wall pistol cases that use little to no lube. Make sure your rifle cases are lubed properly and the steel is fine
Steel dies work just fine since you have to lube bottle neck brass anyways. I like Redding & Forster sizing dies, with a slight edge to Forster… they just feel smoother to me.
Forster bench rest seating dies are the best I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend them.

Have you had any problems with a forster micro seating die and the Dillon 650? I had heard they didn’t mix well.
Was thinking about going for a Redding seater die but would rather have the Forster.
haven’t used them as of yet- what have you heard?
Im using a few different Forster ultra dies on a 1050 and used them on a 550b as well. I believe the 650xl has more stroke than a 1050 so shouldnt be an issue.
My Dilon conversion kit for my 650 will be in tomorrow- so Ill give it a try- hers hopeing!
I had heard that the aligning sleeve of the Forster dies have a tendency to drag/interfere with the shell plate on the dillion presses. I will most likely be picking up a dillion press this fall for myself.
on SOME calibers on SOME presses(every dillon press has a different amount of stroke length) the sliding sleeve can hit the bullet sitting in the case prior to seating as the press index’s. Im running Forster 223 and 300blk dies in a 1050 and I ran them in a 550b and had zero issues loading 300BLK with LONG bullets like the 208g AMAX. I cant imagine the 650 having such a much shorter stroke that their would be a single issue. I believe the 1050 has the shortest stroke of any of the press’s and it has zero issue.
My very first 300 blk case got stuck in the NEW Forester die- no need to tell you that it has to go back to remove it-
First question by them- what type of lube- Hornandy- woopos- wrong kind,
any way- not going to send it back- totally just threw it away-
Did you follow the Forster instructions and clean the die first?
I didn’t and had the same problem.
Clean the die first and then use a q-tip to spread some lube inside the die and on the ball expander.
On the first few cases, make sure they are good and slick and you shouldn’t have any problems with stuck cases.
Get the Forster stuck case remover, it works great…if you follow the directions.
I use Dillion case lube.
No- tossed it- not going to reload 300- Ill stick with the 556- never had any problems with Dillon and 556-
Have been reloading those since 2000!
