300 Blackout build, Barrel suggestions?

I’m planning on building a 300 blackout to toy around with. I’m looking and a 14.5 with a pinned BC 1.5. Who makes the quality 300 blackout barrels these days and anyone in a 14.5? I know it’s better suited in a SBR with a suppressor but I’m in a evil state and thats not a option unless I want to go the pistol route (which is a possibility). What gas system is best to run?

Daniel Defense.

Advice? Find ammo/reloading supplies or go with 5.56. I’m a fan of 300BLK, but the ammo just doesn’t seem to be out there right now.

I’ve got a few 5.56 set ups already. I’ve got quite a bit of 5.56 brass laying around and a lot of .30 cal bullets for loading. So I’ll definitely be rolling my own.

Noveske, Daniel Defense, and AAC…the first two are probably better quality. But the AAC is still quality as far as the 300 BLK round is concerned.

Most .300 Blk operate on a pistol gas length.

Who makes the best and what is available in 14.5" are two different things. Check out Ranier Arms as they have had a few .300 Blk barrels in stock lately.

Noveske’s were available at midway last I saw. If go that route

Pretty much all good functioning 300BLK barrels run off a pistol length gas system. Noveske makes the nicest barrels IMO. I love my 16" and have an 8" on order. Ive got a brand new 10.2" noveske for sale if you decide to go the pistol route. Too bad you live in a non-fun state, SBRs and cans are fun.

I’m thinking of going the 12.5 route but shoot me a PM.

Personally, I think pistol gas on a non-SBR 300BLK is overkill. I built mine around a DD 16" S2W carbine gas. I’ve had ZERO malfunctions w/ my reloads, it’s a very reliable gun. On a 14.5, carbine gas would be plenty, no need to go pistol unless you’re shooting subsonic unsupressed, which is pointless.

The barrel really depends on your goals. If you want to shoot subs and want additional latitude for quieter powders, or 100% guaranteed reliability, a pistol gas is a better choice.

For a 16" shot mostly with supers, carbine is better. Lower recoil and not overgassed with supers.

I have had both Wilson Combat and Noveske 16" barrels. Both were accurate by anyone’s standards (1-2 MOA with just about any load), however as expected the Noveske is more reliable with subs. It does have a sharper recoil impulse with supers though. I have not yet experimented with heavier buffers to see if that tames it a bit.

If cost is a factor Wilson Combat barrels are MUCH cheaper than Noveske and still shoot well. However Noveske’s are available in 14.7 length and include a pinned low profile gas block and gas tube - the pinned GB is a good addition if you are to be using it for serious use.

I’m strongly considering going the pistol route since a SBR in my state is unobtainable as well as suppressors. Mainly I want to give the 300 blackout a try for a small handy close range hog/deer gun. It would more than likely wear a T1 or EXPS3.

Then you would be better off with a carbine gas length. Like sn earlier poster stated, pistol length gas is great if ur going the SBR/can route.

I used a cmmg 16" barrel and its been shooting great with factory 115 & 125 grainers.

Ranier has the 12 in stock:

Midway has 4 300 Blk barrels in stock right now. I used the Midway AR Stoner lightweight barrel. It has been extremely accurate. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/311028/ar-stoner-barrel-ar-15-300-aac-blackout-lightweight-contour-1-in-8-twist-16-stainless-steel

16" DD S2W here as well - I have no problems getting under 1 MOA if my loads are made right. Too hot, and they start wandering, but that’s what happens with any gun.

I’d buy another in a heartbeat.

Instead of starting a new thread i figured why not toss the question in this one:

Anyone know of a CHF and Nitrocarburized (300 BLK) barrel maker? Closest ive found is DD, but they are 10.5 or greater, I prefer AAC’s recommended 9" (ish) length. Prefer manufacturers who drill the gas port PRIOR to FNC treatment and that is more RARE than Unicorn tears…

AAC barrels are drilled prior to FNC.

Not CHF, but why would you want that? As anyone ever worn out a 300 BLK barrel ever? I bet not.

I think the better question is why wouldn’t you want CHF? I mean, cost aside, there are no negatives (obviously from a manufacturing standpoint the initial startup cost is huge, but the process is superior and cheaper in the long run once the machine cost is covered). Certainly not worried about wearing it out, but I am a typical American, over kill is in my gene’s. Plus I have every other type of barrel, so this is just the next “step” so to speak. Its literally the only barrel type I don’t currently have (I have a DD CHF but its chrome lined not FNC, I have 4150, button/Chrome lined, also FNC non HF).

If I had to choose, id rather have FNC/button rifled over chrome plated/CHF. The DD barrel would be perfect if it wasn’t so dam long (10.5). This is for a build I’m doing where I have everything but barrel and hand guard (Noveske Gen 2 lower, Vltor A5, Geissele SDE, LMT parts kit, Vltor MUR-1A, EoTech 553, Octane 45 for subs and YHM 7.62 for sonics).

Agreed that all else being equal, I would like it. But all else is not equal, so I would not make it a requirement. I would just want the best barrel overall.

I will agree with what you haven’t “said” per se, but you guys show out of stock even if I was ready to “add to cart”… =)
