True Velocity has standardized the commercial version of their entry into the NGSW thing. You know, the one that might replace the M4 with a suppressed compact .270WSM.
Max COL 2.81”. Familiar .473” rim.
150gr at 2700 from a 24” test barrel.
So they’ve invented a short action not-quite-.270 Winchester clone. Performance-wise, it splits the 0.02” of difference in diameter between the .260 Rem and 7-08, also splitting the equally small difference in muzzle velocity and energy between them. But in a plastic case. With essentially no neck.
It’ll need to be a whole lot cheaper than their $70 per box .308 Win to be a commercial success. Entirely possible, but far from guaranteed, even with a military contract.
I think their plastic casing concept is a really cool idea. I saw some video where they showed that somehow they can get the same velocity yet get reduced muzzle flash from a SCAR17. If they could figure out some way to just use their casing as like a M855/M80 - A2 kinda project I wouldn’t be against that at all. I think I even remember them saying something about the plastic casing keep the heat in the casing and out of the chamber. So if the ammo was lighter, made less flash, and could shoot the guns harder it seems like an upgrade for the DOD customer.
As a civilian I won’t be adopting no .277 thats no better than the .264 I already shoot.
