Hey guys,
I’m new to the AR15 world, but i’ve looked and looked and can’t find an answer. Whats the rule of thumb for barrel twist rate when using a .22 conversion kit. I have a 1:7 twist which as i understand it is too much twist for say a 40 grains .22lr bullet. is this true and if it is, what are my options? Thanks
1\16 is the twist that CLE uses on their match grade 22lr uppers. I have one, it’s one hole accurate.
1/16 is the correct twist. 1/12 5.56 barrels do pretty good with a conversion.
It always depends on the particular barrel and ammo combo. A couple of my guys claim 1" groups at 50 yards with a 1/7 twist and conversion using ammo their barrel likes.
In general with a 1/7 you can expect about 1.5-2" at 25 yards.
