.22lr Ammo - Match -

Hello, Just got a semi precision .22lr rifle. My local Gun shop carries the cci green label is that stuff pretty good?

Thx

Most CCI ammo is pretty good. I’ve had the best results with Eley (black box), WOLF (regular black box), and Federal AutoMatch.

Wolf and AutoMatch are the best bang for the buck. They’re on par with the Eley at a fraction of the price.

I can’t remember which CCI round my Savage liked, but I thing Green Tag was only so-so in my gun.

When it comes to shooting match ammo out of a .22lr, you need to buy as many different brands and types as you can and fing out what it shoots best. The gun will tell you what it likes, not the other way around. For me, my CZ452 Varmint loves Wolf Match Target. It will shoot sub one inch groups all day long with that ammo.

Quick tip, after you find the ammo it shoots the best with, take the lot number for that ammo back to that store and buy ALL the remaining ammo for that lot number you can.

Green tag shot pretty good in my Anschutz 64 MPR, but not as well as Wolf Match Target and Wolf Match Extra. Also the Eley Target and other various Eley Match varieties shot equal to or better than the Wolf. Some of the Remington/Eley Match is repackaged Eley and shoots good. These are all standard velocity loads, but surprisingly, the CCI Velocitor high speed round shot very tight groups from the Anschutz.

Eley tenex EPS
Eley Biathlon EPS
Eley Black Box EPS
Lapua (has 2-3 top end flavors)

Expect $8-$12 per 50ea box

…these guys OWN the benchrest market if accuracy is your onely concern.

Otherwise, you have to play with the brands.

Eley sub-sonic hp’s are my go to suppressed hunting rounds

This stuff has been nothing short of amazing and is the only pill I shoot currently in the .22lr variety. I was gonna do a accuracy/ammo report on it but figured there wouldn’t be enough interest to merit me posting on it.

It’s occasionally fails to cycle when using a suppressor but it’s extremely accurate. I busted a tree rat with it at 72yds as well, got a great “thump” with the hit at that distance…it stoned him for sure:cool:

This is what I need to find, a good sub-sonic, accurate, HP hunting
round. My current go-to tree rats and wabbits round is the Armscor 36g HP. Half-inch groups at 50yds, horrible past that. But it makes HUGE holes in game. Close to 17HMR exit holes.

Sorry for the drift.

Have you tried aquila SSS 60gr.? It’s an awesome little round with impressive accuracy…just not like this RWS stuff.

This stuff honestly shoots dime sized (10rd) groups out to 60-70yds and is amazingly quiet.

Thanks for the replies. I will give some of these a shot. Read good things about the Wolf and Eley tenex. Is there a good spot to buy the tenex for less than $19.99 (midways) price?

thx

My Uncle and I played with a box of it one time out of his 25" barreled CZ452, grouped ok but we got almost 20 key hole type hits. I will try it out of my Varmint to see if I get better results.

The 40gr RWS subsonic is also the what my CZ452 prefers. I’ve never accuracy tested full velocity ammo in it. The thought of shooting my sniper deuce deuce without a can makes me cringe.
The RWS is also reasonably priced as well. For my cheap accurate subsonics, I use 40gr Aguila.

Bob Collins is the man for Eley…let me look for his email & I’ll pm you.

My local gun shop also carries the Fiocchi super match 320. Anyone have experience with this stuff?
