Does anyone know of a place that has an even better place to acquire .224 55gr. FMJ bullets than Midway? I have always traditionally purchased these http://www.midwayusa.com/product/165907/hornady-bullets-22-caliber-224-diameter-55-grain-full-metal-jacket-boat-tail. And get them in the 1,000 round box for $89.99. I use these primarily for plinking rounds. My favorite bullet though remains to be this bullet http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1165324457/hornady-bullets-22-caliber-224-diameter-55-grain-spire-point-with-cannelure at the same price as above. I just was lucky enough to purchase 6,000 of these mainly because of the scare, but also Midway has been out of them for a long time and I actually missed the two previous notifications by as little as 15 minutes and they would have sold out the entire shipment before I could place my order. I shoot loads of these bullets for everything from practice to coyote hunting and have even successfully killed a few deer with them. It has been months since they offered the FMJ bullets though so I thought I would check with you guys to see if you know of an even better deal than. 08 cents a round to keep the cost of my reloads as cheap as they are now. Thanks for the replies as I know I always get good info here. Midway seems to have the best prices I have found on either of these bullets and IMHO the accuracy of the Hornady bullets can’t hardly be beat.
I bought a couple thousand from Widener’s, just their non-name bulk 55 gr FMJ w/cann at $45/500. They have some LC that is $435/5000. I got very good accuracy with them over 27.1 gr of BL-C2 powder. Really surprised me as they are nothing special. They shot 7/8" 4-shot groups at 100 yds from a PSA 20" upper.
Nowadays you will be lucky to find ANY 55 gr FMJ available anywhere. Based on the generic ones I have I would just get whatever you can find and they will most likely be fine at least within 100 yds if not more.
55 gr FMJ are all over Gun Broker.
The prices are jacked, but such is market demand.
I personally like the Hornady 55 gr. FMJBT w/c bullet. Outstanding accuracy for what it is.
Try www.evergladesammo.com. That’s where I buy all my 55 grn for reloading.

Why? Their prices are fucking RETARDED. $0.26 (before shipping) for some wonky looking 55 gr FMJs?
Shit… you’re better of buying Sierra Matchkings. ![]()
That’s nuts. Sign up for instant notifications and you can get em between $88-$160/M.

WOW… I said I was looking for comparable prices. These guys are outrageous. Why would I even consider paying double or even more for components. My reloads using the Hornady SP bullets are costing around .16 cents apiece now. At those prices it would be cheaper to just buy factory and forget about reloading altogether.:nono:
It’s not hard to see why they have bullets in stock. ![]()
You’re right. Just looked at the site since I haven’t ordered from them for about a year. They’ve gone up alot.
Al
Bulletheads.com, 18.5 cents per shipped.
That is still really high as I just paid about .08 cents a round for soft point bullets. Guess I will just have to reload the empty plinking brass with them after all I only have around 6500 of them now. Should last until Midway gets in a shipment of FMJ’s that I usually get for the same .08 cents that these cost. Thanks anyways guys.
Try Montana Gold.
$0.08 is a good position. I prefer the FMJs too, but any good bullet at .08 is a nice thing in this market…
I was going to say they were off line but checked and they’re back. Of course, the .224 products are all out of stock.
Thanks guys, I guess this will pass. I am not totally out of FMJ’s I still have 500-600 just wanted to try and restock before I ran out completely. I just acquired around 500 or so rounds of once fired brass from a multi agency training class ( I am LEO) and wanted to load em up to add to my stash of ammo. I guess I will just load a couple of hundred FMJ and do the rest with SP.
Yeah, when he first jacked up the prices I sent him an email thinking it was an error…seriously.
His response was entertaining. I got a lecture about how he isn’t a charity. Made it sound like he was barely scraping by with a 400% price hike. I felt like showing him how his supplier must be ripping him off, but I dropped it. Not going to argue with the guy, he’s just trying to make some money, and if he’s got people willing to pay, so be it.

They often have hornady and also have other sorts in bulk for good prices, delivered.

LMAO at get em locally. The day after I got the 6,000 bullets from Midway I happened to stop by the local GS. I asked about powder and scored 500 primers. As I was walking by the counter on my way to check out lo and behold there sits a box from Midway same as I got. The employees are busy with one of the one thousand count boxes sorting them into zip lock bags one hundred to the bag. Clearly marked on the bag is a description of Hornady 55gr SP at only $14.98 a bag. As I looked into the box there were five more of the boxes of one thousand. The wife and I were kind of giggling to ourselves when one of the salesman proudly “asked if I needed any bullets to go with them primers?” I politely declined and paid for my primers at only $3.89 a hundred. Last time I bought primers I paid 21.95 a thousand so I got 10 boxes. Kinda glad I did it now although the wife bout had a heart attack at the time. LOL. No wonder the big reloading stores don’t have anything to sell to civilians because all the mom and pop GS’s are buying them out from under us and reselling them at twice the price.

I bought 6,000 of the Hornady 55 from Palmetto State last week for about 12.3 cents each delivered. That seems to be about the lowest price right now. Least on the internet. What I don’t understand is that they were in stock for several hours, most of the day actually, but people are paying 15-20 for the same thing on gunbroker. Midsouth has also had them in stock for 11.99 per 100.
