About to jump into 223 reloading on a Dillon 650, set up with separate tool head for prep. trimming and actually loading.

I’ve have about 10thousand rounds clean brass, lake city/crimped primer separated and put aside.

Powder 8lbs of h335
This is what the owner of the press said to use

2000primers TUL SMALL RIFLE MAGNUM PRIMERS (KVB556M)
This is what was available
2000 55gr. frontier (cmj223 sp[softpoint]) this is a south african co.
This is all I could find in bulk $185 plus shipping.
Anyone with experience with http://www.frontierbullets.co.za/

Strickly practice ammo 100yard in.
Are the tula primers in category as the wolf/h335 issues.
I have to use h335 but i can change primers if available

Rifle SW lower with all daniel defense internals/upper is colt with daniel defense midlength. Currently has about 500rds of pmc/lake city m855/mix of soft point/hollowpoint tula/wolf/herter no failures to feed any type at this time.

Will be working up a load shortly.

Should be good with the magnum primer make sure you start at the low end and work you load up. If the frontier are the CMJ/TMJ I ordered some of them in the past and they do not have a cannelure and you have to be careful of them getting pressed back into the case.

Those primers will likely not play well with that powder.

Tula and Wolf are supposed to be the same primers from the same plant. For whatever reason, they don’t ignite H335 worth a shit.

That’s actually what I’m concerned about, Unfortunately the owner of the press specified that powder.

I own a SquareDeal set up for 45acp,
I have on loan going on 3 years a second Square Deal set up for 40 sw .from a friend who quit shooting.

The 650 will be on loan from a friend who hasn’t shot in 2 years. worried about contaminating his powder measure I guess…

Not an issue. I run all kinds of powder in my Dillon… including H335 with primers OTHER THAN Wolf…

Then jump back into H322 or Benchmark with Wolf primers.

I have a Dillon 550 that I have used for pistol loading for a few years and have now built a setup to reload 223 on the this 550 press.

Have been reading about and thinking that some of these case prep chores like de-priming before tumble for cleaning. would be best suited on a single stage.

Could use another toolhead setup and the 550 as a single stage with station 1 only for de-priming but I am finding that I want a single stage for some of the odd chores associated with 223.

I have been eyeballing a RCBS Rock Chucker to add to the bench.

Any other 550 or 650 (or progressive 223 loaders) break these other .223 jobs off on single stage presses?

I guarantee you won’t regret adding a slave press. I’d suggest the Lock n Load conversion to whatever you pick.

I have about 5-10 dies I’m constantly swapping on my single and that quick/solid change is priceless.

I was loading .223 & .30-06 on a single stage press. I recently started doing my .223’s on my Dillon 550. I have two toolheads set up for the processing 223. I tumble first. Then run the brass through toolhead #1. This is setup with a Lee Universal deprime die at station 1 and a Dillon power trimmer at station 3. Stations 2 and 4 are empty. Then I swage the brass if necessary (one time operation). Then I load on toolhead #2 using Dillon’s regular .223 die set.

I really like the power trimmer! Don’t know how I did without one for so long.
