I looked through about 7 pages with the search button. And maybe it just doesnt matter and thats why i couldnt find this.
But will it hurt a 5.56 chamber to ONLY shoot .223 rounds through it?
I mean will it couse some kind of throat prob. say after a 1000 or 3000 rounds? I was just wondering since there is a slight difference in the 223/5.56 chamber.
I understand why you shouldnt shoot 5.56 in a .223 chamber becouse of the PSI difference etc. Now that ammo is getting back around, i thought i might buy a case of fed. .223 to put away for later.
Better yet to buy that case of ammo and shoot it. Barrels don’t last forever, but they last a hell of a lot longer than three thousand rounds.
Bimetal bullets however, can cause problems sooner than expected…still not at 1-3K. Keep in mind that these guns in the test were run HARD. Shy of that and barrel life goes up exponentially. When metal gets softer(because it’s hotter,) it erodes much quicker. http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/brass-vs-steel-cased-ammo/
Thank you all for taking the time to answer a dumb ? … It seems like shooting only .223 will help reduce an overpressure. And it seems like we are seeing some overpressure problems with ammo,I guess their just throwing out the door as fast as they can make it right now.And thats kinda scary…
