I received 1500 rounds of this in a trade, I thought it was going to be either M193 or M855 because it was advertised as all being Winchester ammo on stripper clips.
I just have no idea what this is and I’m wondering if it was some dude’s reloads now.
From what I can find, it looks like Winchester PowerPoint 64gr. I just find it a bit odd that this dude had 1500 rounds of it on stripper clips and let it go for about a value of $300.
The brass is stamped WC11
It has a ball powder
The projectile length is a little over 3/4" long.
No, it is not M855 or any standard .mil round(any that I’ve been exposed to anyways).
The cases are stamped WC11, not WCC.
The projectiles are uncrimped, the area that looks like it was crimped was probably from when I used pliers to pull a projectile from the casing.
I don’t recall if Winchester loaded this up at one point. Might be their version of a frangible round? Is it a hard or soft tip?
ETA: Curious enough to poke around and found out Winchester did load this up to DODIC AA40 specs at one point in time. ATK has the contract, but this might have been an overrun or a subcontract? This forum (the post about halfway down) seems to have pretty good info on the frang rounds.
Not anymore.
After I started thinking that it was Winchester PowerPoint, I figured the dude either made it himself or received/bought it and was not pushing it off on me. I guess I should have looked over the ammo better. :suicide:
All I’m really looking for in this is paper-punching ammo, but if it is something that is worth a bit more to a hunter, I figure I could try to put it up for a trade.
It is a hard, brown tip on it. It isn’t exposed lead. Surprisingly enough, those were the best my low-end point and shoot camera could produce.
When I first saw it, I thought frangible too, but after I pulled the projectile that thought went away for me as all the frangible I’ve seen is under 50gr and a really small projectile.
