umm this may be a stupid question, but if I get the .22 conversion kit(bolt and mag) from spikes, can i shoot with my 556 upper or do I need a dedicated .22 upper with a .22 barrel?
You need just the conversion bolt and mag. I run one of the CMMG conversion kits. 5 mm < 5.56 mm so don’t count on it being accurate at long range. Depending on your gun within 50 meters you should be OK. I use mine for shooting at man size targets(www.letargets.com) at 25 meters.
Sure can…that said Spikes offers a .22 conv. and then a dedicated .22 bolt… you want the .22 conv. that allows you to use w. existing .223/5.56 upper:)
thanks. i realize it wont be good for long range. i just want to do some plinking on the cheap
FWIW I’ve got a Spikes conversion kit and have been very happy with it. Only issue I’ve had was a new shooter using the BDM mags as a monopod and inducing failures. Once I figured out what she was doing and why it was causing problems I’ve not had a single failure since and it’s been probably 500 rounds through it.
