22-250 barrel question

I am getting ready to get a new remmy 700 in 22-250. I want to scrap the 14 twist barrel and go to something like 12:1 or 10:1 so I can sling some heavier lead. I am looking for a 20" threaded barrel. anyone have any good manufacturers. if not threaded I can have my gunsmith thread it.

I have used Lilja, Hart (of NY), Brux, and blackstar (out of business). I guess I would suggest you buy the barrel you can get the fastest! There is usually a considerable wait time on barrels. Also its not worth re-barreling with out truing up the action, especially if your using a blank it would be like throwing away money.

One of the best places for barrels in stock, actions etc

I bought from them as well. Good folks!

I’ve been running Benchmark barrels lately with great success. They are quick to your door, priced great, and shoot extraordinarily well.

thanks guys! I figure the wait will be long with the current panic.

Its not the panic it just takes a long time for quality in most instances.

Why 22-250 vs 223? I started with a Tikka in 22-250 and it was a laser beam. But after I got into AR’s, I felt it easier to run 223 for ammo cost. And barrel life, especially if your buying a premium barrel.
Just curious, we all want what we want, just thinking about it.

well a little faster I guess. being a bolt gun I doubt i’ll burn up the barrel very quick. I have 2 ar’s for that. everybody seams to think the 22-250 is superior to the .223 so I want to try it out.

Just depends on what you are doing. Sometimes the extra couple hundred fps helps, other times it doesn’t. Punching paper at 300 yards or less, it probably doesn’t matter, and lots of people shoot .223 out much further. YMMV.

If you want a bit more kick, grab a .243.

Those 105 Bergers run real quick and have a BC of .532 for some serious distance. Not as flat as a 22-250 in medium range, but it hits a lot harder at distance and is still low recoil. Just a thought. Plus you can varmint with 85gr pills at nasty speed. Or grab a 243 AI. I think some are running those 105s at about 3300fps in the Ackley.

Spend all your 22-250 money on 223 ammo and components.

Nothing wrong with a 22-250 but a faster twisted 250 just begs to be improved.

I have a few 1/7 .223’s but I had a 22-250ai built w 1/8 twist to shoot 75gr A-max’s. If nothing else, I won’t need to trim cases as often but running the 75’s at 3400fps ought to be plenty of justification.

I also have. 243ai that shoots the 105’s, they don’t suck either.

yea i’m looking for 300 to 600 range. I’ve been pretty accurate with my ar at 300yds but start falling off after that. may need to work on my loads but i’m new to reloading
