Lots of shit wrong with that entire event, INCLUDING the fact that it would have never happened if ATF didn’t LIE to the Weavers and tell them they’d lose their home and property if they didn’t agree to become confidential informants.
This wasn’t a wacko religious cult, this was just a family that lived in the middle of nowhere because they wanted to be left alone. The incident report filed by the US Marshals concerning the murder of Sammy Weaver was so full of inconsistencies even the FBI rejected it. At THAT point the US government could have informed the Weavers that the ATF lied to them about their home being forfeited and resolved it then and there.
Instead they decided to send in HRT to “rescue” them. Everyone likes to talk Clinton / Reno, but really the serious government overreach began under Bush 41 and AG Barr.
Back in the Reagan days the FBI was going after legit targets like “The Order” and killed people like Robert Mathews using similar siege tactics, the difference is Mathews and his crew were actually murdering people they considered “enemies of the white race” and were trying to create a “white nation” in the Pacific northwest. They were in effect at war with the US and it’s population.
And that is a huge difference between the Weavers (who were separatists) and a group of fringe religious radicals living in the middle of nowhere Texas.
William Bennett, the drug czar of Bush 41, was also the person who requested and got the 1989 assault weapons ban when he stated that “only drug dealers use these firearms.”
I’m just gonna restate once again that there are a LOT of Alphabet Soup criminal misallocations of viable organs walking around who have no idea how grateful they should be that my Shogunate-For-A-Day will never be a thing.

Not sure I follow. Koresh was a crazed cult leader and POS, but he likely wasn’t guilty of any federal crimes. He might have been raping teens, but that’s a state crime, and was never really pursued by any LE, it was just mentioned in press conferences as a smokescreen for the federal-agency crimes committed against his group. And Koresh could have been arrested, by himself, in town five days a week literally any time in the preceding year. Everyone knew this, and the local sheriff was in regular contact with him. The Branch Davidians were fully aware of the ATF’s laughably bad “undercover” op. There were a thousand chances for any criminal investigation to be conducted peacefully.
Most of the “Branch Davidians,” maybe even all of them, weren’t guilty of more than being associated with a religious cult. How many dozens of kids were burned to death, knowingly, so the ATF cluster could be covered up?
For clarification, I was drawing a distinction between the Weavers and the Davidians vs. groups like The Order (which were active, actual-factual white supremacists terrorist groups).
We all know what happened to the Davidians, we all know it was supposed to be a ATF showpiece where they put all the guns on the table and march out the crazy, doomsday people so they can say “See…this is why Clinton needs his assault weapon ban.” That is why they hit them in daylight with news cameras in tow.
If it were a legit op, they’d have taken their leader in town when he had little to no backup and then rolled up on the compound to investigate and seize any illegal weapons and make sure nobody was being held against their will and to see which children they might be taking for protective services.
That’s another event that was completely avoidable but Reno wanted her 6 o’clock news moment.
