From the article:

Shooters armed with assault rifles and some knowledge of electrical utilities have prompted new worries on the vulnerability of California’s vast power grid.

A 2013 attack on an electric substation near San Jose that nearly knocked out Silicon Valley’s power supply was initially downplayed as vandalism by Pacific Gas & Electric Co., the facility’s owner. Gunfire from semiautomatic weapons did extensive damage to 17 transformers that sent grid operators scrambling to avoid a blackout.

I read about that and saw it on the tube. It’s a serious concern no doubt, but the recon on the facility, the planning and execution was very thorough, in that they (LE) have very little evidence or any leads (that they are willing to admit publicly) on the suspects in an attack that occurred almost a year ago. Someone or most in that group has been military trained. I was impressed on how well the attack was carried out. Normally, a group of bubbas, militia or a hate group would have Effed it up and been caught by now. Possible false flag event, Mexican drug cartel sending a message or Vets who are PO’d on retirement cuts…who knows. It’s probably safe to say that this was not a liberal progressive, butterfly chasing, unicorn loving hippie group.

At least Pike was able to stop the attacks.

Haha he always is…another Brad Taylor reader I see, that’s the first thing I thought about when I read this thread.

ELF and similar groups go to some pretty drastic measure to get their message across. Not saying you’re wrong, but there’s definitely some extremism with the earth first types.

Morons have been shooting up power lines, insulators and transformers since day 1. I guess we will have to thank the media for turning the minds of the mindless to this.

Hmmm. I dunno. I think that there are parties who would love to label this attack as actual terrorism in order to justify budget proposals. Lots of money to be made if the right people push it as a pet issue and start wanting armed guards at all electrical substations. If there was a group of really skilled terrorists doing a test run I think it might have been a bit different in execution (from the news articles I’ve read, I have no info other than them). To me, it seems like a handful of drunken bubbas out to make some problems. Of course, I don’t really know.
